Light footsteps thumped on the other side and the door was pulled open.

A little girl smiled toothily at him, "Ro who’s that?”, She pointed at Selena while standing in the doorway.

"Just a friend Kris," he pushed carefully passed her to kick off his shoes. Rowan looked over at Selena with an eyebrow raised, “Are you going to just stand there all night?"

"I am seriously considering it," Selena took a tense breath and stepped into his brightly lit house.

" It's nice.", Selena said nervously.

Rowan laughed, "Small talk? Are we strangers or what?"

He had shut the front door behind her and was leaning against a doorway which he gestures to as he went on, "you can go sit and chill if you want. Did you want food or something?"

She was surprised he didn't say "something " as an innuendo, it would have given Selena a good reason to bail. Unfortunately, he seemed to mean water.

The room Selena entered was rectangular with white walls like the hallway and darker furniture. There was a mahogany framed electric fireplace with a gray love seat and chairs in front of it. A small circular table sat in between them on a worn rug that was the only sign of life in the room. Hardly scuffed hardwood floors that the rug protected seemed new. She wondered if he had just moved here.

Crossing to the couch Selena figured she had kept him waiting long enough, "No thanks, I'm fine ", she replied as her stomach growled loud in betrayal.

"Uh..huh," I'll go get some snacks anyway", He smiled and winked.

Rowan returned with a bag of chips and a plate so full of food it looked like a dinner put away in the fridge for later.

Selena glared at him even though she had only known him for less than an hour.

"I will explain in a second," He disappeared again to come back with soda and cups. Sitting down in a chair parallel to her. He suddenly took on a serious expression and in a deep voice, "I just don't want to fall victim to your hunger miss."

Selena failed to restrain her laugh as she picked up the plate to be polite, "Thank you"

"No problem, what are you doing in Firth?"

"Just some traveling.", she kept her eyes down on the food on the plate.

He didn't press Selena over it and she started popping food in my mouth. Selena quickly got through the food, picking at it with her hands when a fork wouldn't do it fast enough. Completely in her own world of food until she caught a glimpse of my host watching her with open curiosity.

Selena guessed at what he was going to ask, "I am just really hungry. Had a long day", she admitted meekly. The gulp of soda she took after washing the dinner away. Selena needed to get her question off her chest, "If you live here, why were you at that party in little Braslit?"

"My friend Ter's parents own the house where the party was at and it was us who set the party up. They moved away so when we get together, we want to have fun."

"You and your friend set all that up?"

He laughed a bit, "No a few of us did."

"What did you live together then all move?"

"Not exactly... close enough", He had chosen his words carefully then quickly changed the subject, "So what were you doing at the Venchenzo party?"

"It wasn't my intention"

Footsteps came towards us as the little girl came bounding into the room.

"Rowan, Mom said you have to read her a story before bed and it is bedtime", She stated while looking between Rowan and Selena.

He patronized her a little, "You can't tell time how do you know it’s your bedtime?"

"Mom makes me go to sleep when her shows come on tv and her shows have started, so YOU have to read to me."

Rowan sighed and then said to her, "Sorry, this will only take a few minutes, you can take a look around if you want."
