Perfect Miracle (OLD Version)

< The Funeral (Part 1) >

< The Funeral (Part 1) >

Aug 19, 2022

*** This chapter contains discrimination in form of slurs and taunt ***

Looking in the mirror and seeing himself wearing a suit, Jaxon doesn't feel like himself. He hates suits. And when he sees his brothers, hand in hand, he doesn't recognize them either. They don't usually wear attire that formal. Not even to mass on Sunday.

Now they only had to survive multiple hours of church before finally going to the graveyard and being able to say their last goodbyes after every person that could possibly make a speech - made a speech. Jaxon already felt like ditching when he even did as much as look at the suit - thinking about the whole day itself, he felt even more like it. He also desperately tries not to think about the fact that not only his supposed uncle was going to come, but also his faggot 'boyfriend'. Thankfully they were going to the Rossis' place after the funeral and didn't have to endure it by themselves. Thinking about the fact that they were probably going to live with those faggots still made him sick, but Yujah does have a point when he says that they got nowhere else to go, especially not if they all want to stay together.
"Hey, Lia just texted that they have already arrived at the church. We should probably get going.", Yujah says while putting a bottle of water into his backpack, interrupting his older brother's thoughts. The circles under his eyes seem even worse than usual, Jax notices. Jonah is unusually quiet, his hand gripping his older brother's tightly. "Sure, let's go", the oldest of the brothers says, adjusting his suit one last time. When they open the front door they are surprised to see someone else there, waiting for them.

A girl wearing a black blouse over a black skirt is standing in front of their door. Jaxon scrunches his nose while his brothers greet the girl. The girl's hair is held back by a black hairband - Jaxon kinda expected her to wear another hairstyle for the occasion, but then again, he has never seen her wear her hair any different. He wonders if Yujah has. "So, why are you here?", he asks her, not trying to hide the hostility in his voice. "I thought you guys would like some company and I pass by your house on the way to church anyway, so... I thought we could go together." - "What about your family?", he asks. "They already went ahead.", the girl says. "Sure, let's go together.", Yujah says with a smile that doesn't reach his eyes, interrupting the exchange. Jaxon scoffs. "Follow us if you have to", he says, glaring at the girl.

During their walk to church, Jaxon walks a little farther back, and soon, Yujah joins him, walking closely by his side. "Do you have to be so rude to her?", he whispers. Jaxon snorts. "Why should I not be? She hurt you!", he whispers back. "I'm over it, she had a good reason to break up with me and we're still good friends. So, please, just... stop being rude to her, okay?" Jaxon stops in his tracks. "Good reason? Yeah, right... you know what I think? You still like her, that's why you're protecting her - and I won't stand for it. She doesn't get to break your heart, say she wants to be friends, and only acknowledge that you ever dated when it suits her." Yujah, who has stopped walking as well, steps even closer to his brother. "Whether I'm friends with her or not is entirely up to me, you", he says while pointing his finger at his brother, "don't get a say in that. Be nice to her, alright? I don't need this - especially not today." With that, he speed walks up to his ex and Jonah, leaving Jaxon behind. The older brother moves his hand through his hair. "Damn it.", he curses under his breath. Why, just why was his little brother so adamant to hurt himself all the time?

When they reach the church, they are greeted by Giuliana, Ben, and David. "Is Jess here?", is one of the first things Ruby asks. "No, but I'm not surprised - I don't think we'll see her and Lorenzo getting anywhere near this place, even if the world goes under.", answers Ben. Jaxon, who has also been looking around asks where Bianca is, as he didn't spot her near the group. "Over there", Lia answers, pointing away, where they can see her in the distance, "talking to papa on the phone. Apparently, he can't make it even though he promised that Giuseppe and he would be here.", Lia says and rolls her eyes. "I didn't expect them to come all the way here for a funeral of a few hours since I know they are busy, but it would've been nice to have them here.", Yujah says while he looks at Bianca, who looks like she's cursing at him over the phone - probably in Italian. Yes, it would've been nice. But it can't be helped. Instead, he decides to change the subject. "I like your dress.", he tells Lia, who does a little swirl, and tells him "Thank you. I got it fitted for today." Ruby joins the conversation by complementing Giuliana's make-up. "I could never - and not only because I'm too lazy to put make-up on most of the time.", she says, making the conversation flow from there on. Next to them, Jaxon engages in a conversation about college with Ben and David, using it to catch up with the older boy whom he has not seen in a while.

It doesn't take long for other people to join the group. Ruby's family comes to bid their condolences to the three boys, the mother of one of Jonah's friends' greets them as the two children start playing, and two more girls join the teens after their families have said their own words of comfort. One of the girls joins the ongoing conversation about make-up, and the other joins Ben and Jaxon, who are now talking by themselves. "Hey, long time no see.", she tells Ben. "Rose, it's good to see you.", he answers the blonde-haired beauty in front of him. "How's college treating you?", she asks. "Good, good. How's the shop?" Rose smiles at him. "It's going well. Actually, my family needs to leave a bit early because we supply the flowers for the graveyard today." That's when Jaxon joins in. "It's good to have flowers from someone we know and trust.", he says. The three older teens keep chatting by themselves for a bit, before joining up with the younger teens. "Rose, we were just talking about you - we're trying to get Ruby to put some light make-up on. What do you think would be best? You're the expert among us.", the dark-skined girl who joined the group later asks. "Kiara, what have I told you? Stop trying to force Ruby into wearing make-up.", the older girl says. In the meantime, the boys have formed their own little group. "You know you could've skipped the make-up conversation and come to us, right?", Jaxon tells his brother in the meantime. Yujah shrugs. Soon after, it's time for the mass to start. The other teens hug the boys before the three brothers walk up front - all eyes of the people who have been waiting inside on them. Rose stays in the back with her family, so they can leave quietly, while the others try to get as close to the front as possible in hopes of giving emotional support to the brothers.

Orphans. That's what the Clark brothers become after their parents die in a car crash. And unfortunately, they have no relatives left who could take them in - or so they believe.

Marco got kicked out by his family for being gay at the age of 17. He has come a long way since then. He is happily living with his partner of 8 years, has a roof above his head, a job, a stable income... and he hasn't been in contact with his family ever since.

He knows that his parents have both died without ever talking to him again. He expected that to happen. What he did not expect is getting a phone call in his late 30s saying that his older sister and her husband died in an accident, leaving three sons behind. Making him the only relative they have.

He'd like to help, but he has his doubts - surely his nephews would be homophobic, just like the rest of his family was, right? Despite those, he wants to try taking them, after all no one deserves to be left alone as a child or teenager...

Since Marco agrees to become their guardian after talking to his lover, the brothers get a call saying that they can meet with their uncle and his partner. While one only agrees to prevent them from possibly getting separated, another is secretly looking forward to living with the couple.
