13-Secrets
Kenton's pov
I can't believe it! I'm dating Leith! They said yes! I feel overwhelmed. I don't know when was the last time I was this happy. I dated tons of people yet dating Leith...it's just not the same.
Things were so awkward on our date. I was kinda regretting bringing them to a McDonald but now I don't regret it one bit. If it weren't for that, I would've never asked them to be my lover?
It took some time to find an appropriate word for our relationship. Well, they aren't my boyfriend as they clearly stated they are non-binary. It feels weird but I guess I kinda like it, it's different. Everything is different about Leith.
I like that everything is kinda new with them. It's not the same as all the times I dated girls or boys for a matter of fact. Of course, I'm not comparing them to my exes but still, I like how it is between us. Sure we were already kissing before but it's not the same as dating. It feels like this is serious, it's real.
Regardless, I feel guilty, I knew they liked me but I always had that feeling I had to make it right...and that wasn't by dating them too quickly. I wanted to get to know them better.
Normally, I just confess without any issues but that wasn't the case for Leith. Leith isn't those exes I had. I don't want them to be uncomfortable but then again...I'm kinda scared that they aren't...because look I'm popular at school and they were on a low profile as they like to call it.
I can't help but think they don't take me seriously...Leith has more brains than me. I figured that they were special to me and I don't know why. I have been in love before but it has never been like that.
I don't really desire to feel the heat with them, not that I don't want to have sex with them. It's just I always feel the urge to protect them even if Leith is their own person. I want to cuddle them, hold their hands and be around them.
What I found strange is that I don't act as my usual self when I'm with Leith especially when it's something serious that I want to ask. I feel all nervous and jumpy, it's so unlike me. I have always been carefree before regarding this so it confuses me.
Does this mean that I really like them? I always lose my cool in front of them and it's embarrassing. I don't know how they manage to keep their cool.
With how Leith acts, you can't tell they like me. They look so collected all the time. It's difficult to know that it is what they are thinking. I don't know if they want me to f**k off or they want to cuddle me sometimes. Sure I've seen them flustered at times but I wish I could be more calm like them. Oh gosh, it feels weird for me to say that.
Everyone wants to be me, not the other way around. Yeah, I do act like myself most of the time but still, I don't know why I'm so nervous around them. What am I scared of? Ugh, I don't want to overthink this anymore. Overthinking is not my thing, maybe it's Leith's thing?
"Hey Kenton, what'd you thinking?" Oh yeah, I'm in the cafeteria at school. I almost forgot.
"Oh, it's nothing."
"It doesn't sound like nothing to me."
"Oh, quit it, Kate."
"Hm no fair. You refuse to tell me anything. I heard you haven't even said anything to Sam lately and he's your best friend. What's up with that?"
"Look, we don't tell each other everything. We keep things to ourselves. He keeps his love life private. I respect that but still, I don't get why he doesn't tell us."
"Hey, I heard that!"
"Shut up! We weren't talking about you, Wilson!" He scoffs.
"Ok, fine sens it seems like you are hell-bent on not telling me let's talk about something else."
"Oh yeah like what?"
"Did you guys notice the Christmas decorations!" Kate says happily.
"Yeah, yeah we did we're not that dumb, Kate," Jack says. Gosh, Jack is always to the point.
Now that I think about it, Jack always judges everyone but he seems to be doing it a lot to Kate lately.
Like I get she used to not be a part of our group but does he need to be harsh on her? Like seriously did something happen between them or something? Are they keeping secrets like Sam and I have been?
"Didn't need to point that out but look how beautiful it looks!" Kate says excitedly completely ignoring Jack.
Ok, it seems to be a Jack problem.
"I'll never understand why girls are so obsessed with decorations."
"Says who? I know that you like it secretly Jack."
"Hm sure, continue thinking that."
"You guys stop talking about the damn Christmas decorations! They always do it every year anyway. But do you guys know what is different this year?!"
"Um no?"
"Excuse me what?! Have you guys really forgotten that it's my birthday on Friday?! Kate is right Kenton! I know that we don't tell each other secrets all the time, but I didn't think you could possibly forget my birthday!"
"I'm sorry man?" Everyone starts bursting out of laughter.
"That's your apology! You know what! You're not allowed to come to my birthday party!"
"What? No, I want to go! You can't disallow me to go! I'm your friend, aren't I?!"
"Well, you have to prove that to me." He scoffs and I do too.
"Hm, fine I'll do that."
"What's even cooler is that my birthday is on the last day of school before the Holidays!"
"Wait...does this mean...Omg, this is the last week before the Holidays! Gosh, I didn't notice Christmas was that soon."
"Oh don't be like that Oliver but yeah kinda surprised you didn't notice. Aren't you supposed to go see some relative in Oklahoma again?"
"Um yeah?"
"Oh well, that's too bad I was planning on going to my chalet in the mountains and inviting you guys."
"Wait you have a chalet, Jack?!" Kate says in disbelief.
"Yeah? I thought I mentioned it before?"
"Oh, I guess it slipped my mind." Jack stared coldly at Kate. Seriously, what's his problem with her?
"Well, I'm definitely in. My dad's gonna be busy as usual and I don't want to be stuck at home doing nothing." Sam says.
"Ok then, how about you Kenton?"
"I'll ask my parents if I can but otherwise I know they'll say yes."
"Well, that's good to hear. Well, Kate...I don't know about you though..."
"What? You mean you don't know about me?"
"Well...you're a girl and..." Jack says unsure of how to cross the point.
"What does me being a girl change to you?!" Kate lashes out.
"Woah calm down...I was just pointing out."
"And if you're worried that I'm gonna do something with you guys, then it won't happen because I'm gay!" We all look at her with wide eyes, Jack more than us. Well, sh*t seems like some people heard.
"Wait...what do you mean you're gay...?" Jack surprisingly asks first.
"Well you know, I like girls that's all," Kate says nonchalantly.
"Why didn't you tell us earlier?"
"I just...I didn't want you guys to see me in a different light. I didn't want to steal the spotlight from Kenton."
"Hey...I don't care about being in the spotlight."
"Oh, Kate...how long have you kept this from us..?"
"Well...I already knew I liked girls before I met you guys but...I kept it a secret..."
"Oh goodness. I'm sorry for telling you numerous times to get yourself a man..." Sam says guiltily.
"No, it's fine Sam...It's not your fault you couldn't know..."
"Through, this doesn't mean Sam idea's was bad!" Oliver says and we look coldly at him, he instantly stops smiling.
"What? I was just saying. Instead of a guy, she could get herself a girl?" Oliver says. Ok, that sounds odd coming from him.
"You think I should get myself a girl? I don't know anyone else that likes girls." Well, I do but that's beside the point.
"We'll find a lesbian for you!" Oliver says too loudly for our taste.
"Yeah! We'll set you up!" San says.
"If you want a date, I can help too," I say hiding the fact I already have someone in mind.
"Awh, you guys would do that for me?"
"Yeah, totally!"
However, there's only one person that remains silent and it's Jack. How odd. He's not acting like himself today at all. Is he bothered by this?
"Jack? You're quite silent. Are you bothered by the fact Kate likes girls?" Sam says. Good thing he noticed. Now all eyes are on Jack.
"No, I don't care. It's her thing..." He says in a weird cold way. How odd.
"You better be fine about the fact I like girls! Or else you better speak up now if you don't want me to smack you!" Kate says agitated and Jack's eyes go wide.
"Seriously, I'm fine with it. Why wouldn't I be? I'm fine with Kenton liking guys." That still doesn't mean he's not uncomfortable with Kate's sexuality.
"Doesn't matter, what I care about is the fact that you have no reason to not invite me to your chalet!" Kate says irritated.
"Well...I'm sorry for doubting you Kate...but are you sure you want to come...?" Jack says doubtful.
Seriously what is Jack afraid of? If he's scared of ruining his loyalty to us, he's not breaking anything. It's time for a change. Kate is a part of us now. It's not only us guys.
"Of course sounds fun! What are you going to do there?"
"We ski, we hang out, relax and have fun." Sam answers.
"Cool! I know how to ski! I used to do it often with my parents when I was younger!" Kate says.
"It's not only gonna be for a day, we'll be there for a few days. Are you sure your parents are fine with that?"
Wow, is Jack trying to change her mind? It's so lame coming from him. Everyone wants her to come and he seems to be the only one against it.
"Oh come on Jack, now that I can't come, Kate can replace me!" Oliver says.
"Yeah, Oliver's right. I'm sure my parents won't mind. They trust me enough."
"You sure you're fine with being with only guys for a few days?" Jack asks doubtful.
Ugh, is he afraid of accidental accidents or something? I'm not bothered by the fact she could be with us, only guys for a few days, I believe it's the same for Sam. Now what's the matter here?
"Do you not trust me or something? I'm not gonna hit on you. I have no interest in you, I like girls or did you already forget that?" Jack glares at her while surprisingly slightly blushing.
Wait what? Jack actually blushed? Seems like he's the one who doesn't trust himself.
"Hey, I'll be fine Jack. I'm sure nothing will happen. I never did anything to you guys and I'm sure you won't do anything to Kate." I try to reassure Jack.
"Now that I think about it, how could you not ever want to hit on your friend Kenton?" Kate asks.
"I just never did and besides I already like someone else."
"Yeah, and that's Liam. What's going on with that by the way?" Sam asks.
"Not telling,"
"Great more secrets," Kate says slightly annoyed.
"Anyways...since it seems like you're coming...You can bring...a girl if you want..."
"Huh? I don't have any girl in my life right now. What'd you talking about Jack?"
"Oh...I just assumed...because Kenton had a boyfriend when he came out to us...wait he never came out to us."
"You mean you caught me kissing another guy."
"Yeah..." Jack chuckles nervously.
"My parents are chill and all but still they can't find out I brought a girl...you know why..."
Ah, now that makes more sense why Jack was so bothered by it. I should've known.
"Yeah...I wish parents didn't automatically think we are gonna do something. Like look, I don't even like guys!"
"That's the spirit, Kate!" Sam says as he high-fives Kate.
"Yeah!"
"So...this means we could talk about girls with you..." Oliver says.
Oh yeah, never thought about that.
"Oh, you pervert! Oliver you don't need to talk about girls! You already have your girl, Meghan!" He instantly turns bright red. Thank goodness Meghan isn't here today to hear this.
"Wait...have you guys ever brought a girl before to your chalet?"
"Well, Kenton brought Brayden when he used to date him 2 years ago. Otherwise, no we never brought a girl."
"It's true and it was the first year we started doing this tradition too."
"Do you know what this means?"
"What?"
"It means Kenton can bring Liam if you want to. I badly want to meet him!" Oh yeah, I never introduced Leith to her.
"What?"
"Come on, not only Kate agrees on this but it's clear there's something between you guys. You said it yourself I'm the brightest of all of us." He winks at me.
"You told him what?!" Jack and I start laughing.
"What's funny?!"
"Ah, it's nothing."
"I thought we were best friends!"
"Oh, stop being so dramatic Sam!"
"You!!" We both stop laughing.
"Guys don't."
"Fine..."
"So...Liam and you?"
"Quit it."
"Ugh, why are you guys so frustrating?! I just want to know what's going on! Why aren't you guys telling me anything? I want to know the tea."
"Ah well...you can't always know everything."
"You guys suck! I thought you would be more open than that!"
"Oh Kate, one day you'll know but for now you've got to be patient. You kept a secret for years, I think everyone has their own secrets no?" They all agree.
"We'll just tell you when we want to or maybe never."
"Oh, Kenton! Why do you have to taste my patience like that?"
"Ah, ah, I know a girl that's lesbian too. I think it would be cool if you met her."
"Really who?"
"Ah, ah that got your attention."
"Kenton don't f**k with me! Is it just a joke or do you really know another lesbian girl?"
"Yeah, I do actually."
"Who is she?"
"Think a little bit more and I'm sure you'll instantly know who I'm talking about."
"You're no fair Kenton!"
"That's what you get for being a b*tch."
"Then you're an asshole if I'm a b*tch."
"OK suit yourself."
"Kenton!" I chuckle then I get up.
"Oh well see you guys later. Gotta go somewhere."
"Yeah, yeah go see Liam. We all know it's him." I don't answer in return and leave.

After meeting Leith's friends, I get to hang out with them again unlike Leith who doesn't want to hang around my friends. I seriously have to ask and change that.
"You're funny Kenton. I approve of this relationship." I turn and look at Leith.
"Wait what?"
"Oh I told them...is it ok...?"
"Oh...oh, it's fine I just...I didn't know if you wanted to keep it a secret or not..." Sarah and Matthew look at us trying to understand what's going on.
"Well...I was too excited...and I told them...but I don't want the whole school to know either..."
"Kenton, does your friends know?"
"Well, they don't actually...they only know I like you that's all..."
"Oh...You know you can tell them..."
"Yeah...it's just...I don't know...I thought that we should date in secret for now..."
"Oh..."
"I for sure thought you would be the first one to tell your friends considering your status."
Always Sarah pointing things out. She's Jack's version of Leith's friends.
"Ah, no, I don't know why I keep this from them...I told them I like you Leith...before we started talking again."
"Oh, that's a long time ago. Is there something going on between you guys?"
"No, no nothing's wrong. As a matter of fact, today it's Sam's birthday."
"For real? How come the school is not talking about it?"
"I don't know about that but all I know is that Sam's hosting a party for his birthday tonight."
Sarah's is acting like her energetic self but Matthew is kinda quiet all of a sudden. Hmm, strange...
"I was actually thinking about asking you to come to Sam's party. Leith, do you want to come with me?"
