Nemesis continued to stare at his hand, ignoring the screens that had appeared.
"...."
Despite not understanding what was going on, Kelley ran to Nemesis, separating him from the tree after all the plants had started to move strangely.
"You want me to die of a heart attack! Can't you be quiet for two seconds without making me worry?!"
In addition to anger, concern was very perceptible on his face as he checked that Nemesis' body was unharmed.
"...."
She did not answer him, but continued to stare at the back of his hand, still on the mark.
"What is that?"
"It appeared to me when the orbs came together and rested on my skin, it is the mark of the Primordial Serpents."
"Don't talk nonsense!!! Although the style of the snakes is similar... it's not at all comparable Mark I studied when I was still a kid, moreover the Mark of the Primordial Serpents is one of the Marks passed down in legends... And there has never been proof that they really existed..."
"I don't know how it should be... But I'm sure of it."
"Hmm..."
"Don't worry, let's head towards Dee's house, let's not waste time.
"Alright..."
The two started walking, beginning to talk about the mark and the legends that had been passed down, while someone not too far away from them had been observing everything that had happened.
"Interesting... The Mark of the Primordial Serpents..."
******
A large palace stood before them. The stones were black and it was adorned with stone creatures, the roof was at least as large as the mansion and decorated with tiles and stones of different dark colours, creating a dark rainbow with the reflection of the moon.
Slowly opening the wrought-steel gate, they entered the garden, which was intended to welcome guests. A large fountain was in the centre, while the path was made of a special variety of mahogany-coloured boulders, which resembled the colour of the plants that adorned the picturesque landscape.
"I don't think he's here..."
Kelley knew his friend well and knew that Dee's favourite part of the house was his garden. The plants, in fact, had begun to climb over the fountain, the roots of the plants had begun to break the stones of the lanes, and the grass began to be tall enough to reach knee height.
"But don't you find it strange? There isn't a single blade of grass in the whole forest, but as soon as you pass the gate, the plants are in excellent health."
"It will probably be because of the spells Dee had prepared for the care of her plants.... But honestly, I'm not sure myself..."
As they continued talking, they arrived in front of the mansion's main door, and pushing hard on the knob attached to the wooden door could be heard squeaking, as if they hadn't been oiled in ages.
The entrance room was so majestic that it would not be difficult to mistake it for a room that belonged to the king. Armchairs stitched with fine leathers and furniture adorned with precious woods and hand carvings played off the light colours of the walls and frescoes hung all along the walls.
"I think I have never seen anything more beautiful in my life..."
"...."
"Dee is some kind of prince? How does he have such great wealth?"
"He's a normal person, he's not as rich as you think..."
"Then how does he afford all these possessions? Did he steal them?"
Staring at him angrily he immediately ended his ignorant loquacity of the truth.
"He would never afford to steal. Come on, let's see if we can find any clues as to his whereabouts."
Remorseful at the reply he received he merely nodded.
'Maybe I went too far...'
Starting to explore the mansion Nemesis noticed the anxiety and worry rise exponentially on Kelley's face.
"What's going on? Have you discovered something?"
"I think he's here."
"How can you tell?"
Being quite stunned by his friend's statement, he couldn't help but be puzzled.
"His spells protecting the house and garden are too stable. Usually if the one who cast them goes too far away the spells slowly lose power, until they vanish after years, as is happening to the garden, while here in the house.... It seems the opposite, his powers are not weakened, but rather amplified."
"Then let's hurry up and find him!"
******
Nemesis and Kelley sat down on the armchairs in the entrance hall.
"You don't happen to have any other secret rooms?"
"I don't think so... The only one he told me about was empty, not even his equipment was present."
"There must be another room or some place we haven't checked yet no?..."
"I don't know... We've already checked everywhere by now..."
"There must be somewhere we haven't checked!!! Come on let's not get down now!"
"We've already checked the whole house twice, with no results..."
Kelley was now despondent and Nemesis did not know where to look, although he still had enough time to find him, the fact that he had no clue where to find him made him restless.
|Time remaining: 207 hours and 52 minutes.
Attention, the remaining time is almost up, complete the mission as soon as possible!|
"Shall we try checking outside as well?"
"With what purpose? Although I feel so close to him.... I can't find him... Something must have really happened to him while I was in that prison doing nothing...."
He began to sob as he tried to hold back the tears that marked his face.
"This is not the time to give up my friend, like you said we are close, we just have to look harder no? Maybe nothing even happened to him, maybe he went on a trip and must have found a way to keep his spells.... Pull yourself together..."
She placed her hand on his shoulder and helped him up.
"Don't worry, we'll find him."
"Alright..."
He handed him a handkerchief and, after making sure Kelley had recovered enough, walked towards the mansion door and out.
"Let's try to check the garden, maybe we'll have better luck."
They began to check the garden, the outer walls of the walls and finally the small mausoleum that stood behind the mansion.
A majestic marble construction full of ornaments and religious symbols and angels, one of the areas to which access had been forbidden.
"Here rest the parents of Goddesses, I had never been allowed even to approach this place..."
Breaking the ban they entered, entering the small chapel three Roman-style sarcophagi appeared before them, also made of marble.
"Then why are there three sepulchres?..."
"I don't know, as I just told you this place was not accessible, for anyone..."
They bowed and began to pray, to pay respect to the resting dead.
When they had finished praying they got up, and decided to return to explore the area, until a small detail stopped Nemesis. He approached the central sarcophagus and saw something he would not have expected appear from the stone slab that sealed the tomb.
"Kelley, I see the little black orbs again... they're coming out from under this tombstone..."
"That is, the orbs you see are appearing from underneath this tombstone?"
"Yes... I'm sorry to disgrace whoever is resting here.... Help me move it."
"...Alright... "
Reluctantly they began to push the lid of the coffin, and as soon as they managed to move it they were amazed.
"These...are stairs?"
"Not only that... there is a spell that prevents them from being crossed, as well as preventing them from being felt. This must be why he wouldn't let anyone near this place, it must be his hiding place in case something super serious happens.... Give me room, I may not be as powerful as Dee, but I know her spells well and I should be able to force it to allow us to enter."
Moving to the side he made room for Kelley, who, bringing his hands to bear on the transparent barrier, began to recite unintelligible words to Nemesis.
