The time between afternoon and evening passes so slowly that I wish I could just go home and rest. In front of me was a civil law code book. As I turned the pages, I realised there was still more to read. I sighed to myself.
"Hey, did you guys see the latest news? The unexpected plane crash? " Leo inquired hastily.
"Shut up, you!" As everyone in the library looked at us, Jhanvi calmed him down.
For the past few weeks, we've been holding our meetings at the library. It's quiet enough that no one comes to bother us.
"Have you heard the news, Jhanvi?" While leaning against the table, he whispered However, we may be inadvertently disturbing others.
"I didn't! And get back to work on the research; we have a mock trial this week. I don't want to slap you during the trial because of your foolish antics. "
"Tch! I was just wondering, what are you so concerned about when we have Sia and Owen on our side? We could almost get a perfect score. And don't worry, I'll play the ideal victim. " He said this while striking a pose. The girls in front of us started giggling. I know I'll do my best, but he's putting far too much faith in me. Even I am liable to make mistakes. However, I doubt Owen would. I cast a glance at Owen, who was sitting diagonally next to me, reading, unconcerned about the charade that had been going on. Unlike the childish Leo here, he acts more mature in our group than the three of us. That is something I admire about him.
"You!" Jhanvi was about to punch him but stopped herself. I admire her for being so patient with this guy. On the other hand, Leo cowered meekly, expecting a thrashing. We didn't want to cause any more commotion by sitting here, and since this is where even the seniors come to study, we didn't want to leave a bad impression. So the three of us stood up and prepared to exit the library.
"Hey! Where are you going, guys? I apologise… ! Please wait for me! " Leo followed us outside while apologising to everyone.
"It's always too embarrassing to take you along with us. Ugh! Can't you just be quiet in there? " Jhanvi gave Leo a disgusted, angry look, but he just averted his gaze while whistling with nothing but the air coming out of his mouth. He truly is like a child, but that defines his personality. Leo is the only one who occasionally lightens the mood, despite Jhanvi's harsh words toward him. We all know how well their chemistry works. Sometimes his antics get a little out of hand, but it's a small price to pay to be with a friend like him.
"Now, now... let him be, Jhanvi. As you said earlier, we must prepare for next week. We don't have much time, do we? " I tried to put a stop to the squabbling.
"I'm leaving you for the time being because of Sia... Hey! Are you even listening? " Why did I even bother?
"Yeah, yeah..." Ignoring Jhanvi's grunting, he turned to face us. "Really, you haven't heard about that mysterious plane crash? It's all over the news right now. I thought you'd know, Owen. " I looked at Owen, who simply nodded in response, as if to say no.
"No, we haven't! So stop talking about it and look at me when I'm talking. " She kicked him in the knee from behind. He turned back, writhing in pain, to look at the flaring lioness, hoping to find some sort of justification for her action just now, but her stern glare made him smile meekly while rubbing his hand behind his head. They're like a cat and a mouse living in the same house. Always squabbling with one another.
Owen spoke up after feeling left out of the conversation.
"Don't we also have that next week?" He reminded us of the most recent hot topic among first-year students.
"Oh, I was going to ask about that as well. So, have you guys decided about the event next week? " Leo inquired as he prepared himself for Jhanvi's upcoming assault. As though answering his own question, Owen nodded. He is a smart but reserved man. He doesn't interact with others much, but everyone respects him. I've only seen him interact with our group and one other since I've known him. Because of his looks, most of the girls are head over heels for him. He might be the ideal boyfriend a girl could hope for.
"Is that a question? Our seniors reminded us repeatedly over the last month. It will be a hassle if we do not comply. After all, it will benefit us as well, so why not? Right, Sia? " She looked at me, waiting for confirmation.
"Yeah." I still don't feel like blending with a large group of people, but if it helps us in the future, I won't pass up this opportunity.
We got to our classroom while talking about more casual things that had happened recently. It was mostly Leo who was babbling nonstop. I could almost feel one of my ears going numb. Jhanvi was ready to throw another punch with blood vessels popping on her forehead, and Owen was as calm as always, just watching and listening to things.
