Appearance: Techno vampires are humanoid and do not have a second form. To Vist, they appear to have lightning dancing over their skin.
Abilities: Techno vampires can control any technology with ease. They are technopaths and as long as they are connected to the internet, can get into any virtual environment. They do not have to learn programming or hacking skills as these come naturally as part of techno vampire magic and techno vampire magic will beat out any potential hackers of other varieties, so no one (other than another techno vampire) can get past a techno vampire’s security settings and no one (other than another techno vampire) can keep a techno vampire out. They do not have (known) active magic to defend themselves beyond what they can make electronics do. Techno vampires generally feed passively off of any nearby electronics, but can specifically feed if needed.
Techno vampires do not directly have hearth magic, but can use electronics to alert them to a potential intruder and basically take care of the intruder (such as hooking up tasers to their alert system) for them.
Alignment: Techno vampire magic is dark magic. They are not aligned with any particular supernatural species, but their ancestors (witches and vampires) tend to be particularly unfriendly towards them.
Lifespan: Techno vampires all die from a genetic disease. They currently live on average 50 years, up to 80 max. They used to live longer, closer to 150 years, before technology. It’s not clear what their lifespans would be if their genetic disease was resolved. When techno vampires die, their bodies turn back into energy.
Personality: Techno vampires are generally isolated and secretive. They rarely inform other people that they are dying and will spend much of their life online, without much direct contact with other people, and will simply disappear when they die without any explanation as to what happened. Techno vampires also tend to be transient and unwilling to commit to anything long-term, so they usually contract out for work or just do things short-term. Techno vampires will work for almost anyone, but they refuse to invade another techno vampire’s territory or go up against one, so if an employer requests them to hack into a system that turns out to be run by another techno vampire – which they can tell the moment they get close enough to the system to taste the magic – they’ll refuse the job. Techno vampires don’t usually hang out with each other because they don’t want to impact each other’s feeding and they’re very respectful of each other’s territory, meaning that if they travel into an area and realize there’s another techno vampire there, they will move on swiftly.
Known hybrid variants: None. Techno vampires rarely live long enough to get involved with other people or feel like they are willing to put someone through their short lifespan.
Example Members: Claire (deceased), Anna, and Milo
Techno vampires appear in Butterfly (which was designed to introduce the species and their difficulties) but also appear in Family, Hunted, Slumber (more of a mention than an actual appearance), and TME.
