Maeva evading that shark by trapping it in a stone arch reminds me of that scene in the Little Mermaid. The one where Ariel and Flounder did the same trick but with an anchor in the beginning of the movie
Maéva would like to choose her own path but as a princess and the last descendant of the Atlanteans, she has obligations. At her arranged marriage, she decides to run away to enjoy her freedom one last time before serving the Atlanteans for her entire life. Meanwhile, the abyssal people of the shark-men storm the kingdom, taking revenge for having banished them to the abyss. Maéva finds herself helpless and alone, Mao, the shark-men, offers his help...
