A Throne of Potion and Mirrors

Dead Ringers (Part 2)

Dead Ringers (Part 2)

Sep 12, 2022

Amanji mouthed, "Witch."

"How dare you!" Maharahi landed back on the ground. "I am Maharahi, the personal physician of the royal family of the Kingdom of Ranundala." The wrinkles on her forehead vanished. "But yes, I was a witch. Now strip!"

With a flick of her hand, their pants torn apart. They quickly covered their man parts, but another flick of hand made their arms went up to their sides. Saka Subarsang picked up their old clothes, including the shreds, and took it outside where he burned them away. They stood in embarrassment as Maharahi circled them one by one while probing every inch of their skin to see any signs of illness. It's one thing to be looked at by a woman, but it's another different thing to be looked at by a gorgeous woman who happened to be a witch. It's both arousing and frightening.

The first person that caught Maharahi's attention was Kinalu. He might have a perfect facade of a man; broad chest, toned abdomen, strong legs, massive phallus. But, his body was filled with eight stab wounds. She gave him a jar of ointment to get rid of the wounds.

The next person was Hismar. He had the build of a warrior with the height that could rival Prince Grahuri's and a remarkable shoulder to waist ratio. His body was alright and his health was excellent, but he had a scar on his chin that desperately needed healing. She, too, gave him a jar of ointment.

Darga was the only one that didn't have any marks on his thin body, but his fingers were calloused and he was clearly malnourished. Maharahi told him the food to improve his health and the routine he had to do every day to make his fingers smooth again.

The last person she inspected was Amanji. He had the most similar body type with the Prince Regent. Not too thin, not too toned. Slim, slender, light. Yet he had many small scars all around his body, including the slit on his eyebrow. The biggest one was on his back, a burn mark with a size of a fist. When Maharahi was going to apply an ointment on it, Amanji had to ask if it contained bluegrass or sagebush, because he's allergic to them. Only after he was convinced that it's all good, Maharahi applied the ointment on him herself while muttering some spells to make it fade faster.

After the examination, they were led to a bathtub in the other room. The water was warm, aromatic and mixed with purple bath salts. Maharahi instructed them to stay in there for fifteen minutes and to brush their teeth with the same water. They didn't resist anything this time. The bathtub looked tempting and they needed to relax their muscles after the fight with the palace guard.

Darga almost fell asleep when Saka Subarsang told them to get up. He gave them a towel each, then told them to sit. Kinalu was just admiring his magically cleaned fingers when the apprentice started cutting his hair. This was where the resistance began again.

After their hair were cut to the medium length and styled like the prince regent's wavy swept back, they were given new clothes. It's just a common caretakers' uniform with a red wrap shirt, black belt, red trousers, black arm wraps, red tie head band and black sandals, but they already looked so much different.

Returning to the ground floor of Maharahi's pavilion, they scrambled to see themselves in the mirror. Only with some scar removal ointments, a good and thorough bath, plus the right haircut, the four dirty commoners were transformed into four fine young men, worthy to stand next to the Prince Regent.

"Still think the Prince Regent is lame?" Lir surprised them again by already being in the room.

"So all this time..." Darga touched his face, "I wasn't ugly?"

"I know I wasn't... I can't be," said Kinalu as he smiled to the mirror. Now everyone could see why Renggi Nanta had to pay his old master a sum of money to take him away.

"I guess we're all just... poor," said Hismar after adoring his perfect teeth. He already stored the necklace's pendant in his pocket.

Amanji didn't say anything because he felt weird without his slit eyebrow, but then, maybe it's for the best.

Jantra Kawa's entrance immediately grabbed their attention. Another similar looking young man, only with complete bronze armor and much shorter hair. He was the only one who wasn't as satisfied as everyone else in the room. It was obviously expressed by his frowning bushy eyebrows and tightly pressed lips. His saffron yellow eyes couldn't even stop scrutinizing them from the bottom to the top.

Then the doors from the south side of the hall were open. A young man in a loose chiffon outerwear, nayin and gold necklaces strolled in with Renggi Nanta who followed him behind. He was astonished seeing that many young men already looked quite like him even without the potion.

"Your Highness," Maharahi curtsied.

Saka Subarsang, Jantra Kawa and Lir also bowed. Only then the four young men realized that they were in the presence of the Prince Regent Basandaya, so they bowed to him too. They knew they weren't supposed to stare, but they couldn't help it, for this man was the inspiration how their looks were shaped to be like this. And he was a charming young man. Clearly different than the common Ranundalan people.

Maharahi proceeded with introducing them one by one, while Saka Subarsang gave them a vial each.

"Let me start by thanking you all for taking this job despite the danger you may face while doing it," said Prince Basandaya. They were a bit surprised that within this powerful bearing of a young head of state, he had a voice that was soft and soothing, although it sent some chills too at times. "The last thing I want to do is sacrificing people for the short period I'm having as the regent of Ranundala. Therefore, I wish you all good luck and safety. May the gods bless you for your service to the kingdom."

"Gods shall grant it," answered the others.

"Now, you have a vial of the potion that will make you look exactly like His Highness," said Maharahi. "This portion only allows you to retain his physique for ten minutes, but during your work, you will be given a portion that can last for three hours. The potion can only work once every twelve hours, so you must calculate the time when you're consuming it. Make sure you drink it just before you meet the high officials or appear in front of the public. The servants are not allowed to look at the royal family in the eyes, so you'll be alright around them. And for the demonstration. Gaptin Jantra Kawa, if you please."

Jantra Kawa opened his vial and drank the potion. Soon after all the pink liquid disappear, his facial structure was changing. In a matter of seconds, his shorter hair grew longer, his body mass thinned and he transformed completely into Prince Basandaya.

It was the first time for the Prince Regent to see his personal guard turned into him. He had to come closer to see if that's how he actually looked like.

"This is fantastic, Maharahi!" said Prince Basandaya who acted like a child seeing his long awaited birthday present. "Say something, Jantra Kawa."

"Your Highness," said Jantra Kawa with his deep voice, making the four men shrieked.

"Would you like to try?" Saka Subarsang asked them.

"Oh, yeah, sure, that doesn't seem hurt."

They took a big gulp on their potions and waited until they turned into the Prince Regent before they started talking to each other. Now there were six men with the face of Prince Basandaya and the only two things that set them apart were their clothes and their voices. Kinalu had the most similar voice as the Prince that even Prince Basandaya himself was shocked to hear him.

Renggi Nanta glanced at Maharahi who appeared to be very proud of her work. Even Lir who rarely smiled couldn't help but giggle seeing those men with different characters taking the Prince's form.

"Alright, boys," Renggi Nanta announced while clapping her hands. "Your work begins now."
