Alexander took a deep breath the moment he arrived outside. The air was cool and refreshing, it smelt of mint with a hint of cherry mixed in. Above him swirled scattered clouds that danced to the song of migrating birds. Looking out on the horizon presented him with a beautiful mosaic made by the changing leaves, signaling that winter was indeed approaching. He couldn’t wait to see the first snowflakes.
He found a spot to lean against, took out his journal, and proceeded to scribe his thoughts. His lunchbox was next to be taken out. His mother had prepared it for him knowing his aversion to eating in the cafeteria. Inside of it was: steamed rice, hot dogs cut into the shape of squids and nuggets into the shape of bats. The childish shapes managed to get a laugh out of him.
Alexander’s thoughts trailed back to his prior lesson, it reminded him of something his parents once said. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a human or a vampire, they hunt monsters. His teacher’s words now had him wondering what they truly meant. His time alone was soon cut short by the faint noise of chatter approaching him. He peeked his head around the corner and saw two young men approaching his hiding spot while conversing.
The one that stood out the most was the smaller of the two. He had a slender and curvy build made of porcelain white skin. Both his hair and eyes were a dark black, with the former being long and flowing and the latter shimmering under glossy lashes. The school uniform was the only indicator that this person was a guy. However, it didn’t do much to hide the curvature of his swaying hips.
The second guy appeared scruffy but familiar, as if he had just come out of training, with his uniform being the only tidy aspect of him. His caramel face was scratch covered and had a bandage lining his upper nose. He had short brown hair accompanied by dark blue eyes. His sleeves were rolled up, showing toned and muscular arms, revealing to Alexander that they shared similar builds.
Alexander quickly realized that the second guy was a member of the track and field team. Making him more curious as to what these two, contrasting students, could be doing together on the rooftop of the school building. It was clear that they didn’t come to eat like he had since they didn’t carry any lunchboxes or trays with food. Even more curious was the distance, or lack thereof, between them. The smaller guy clung to the second’s arm giving rise to the idea that maybe they were secret boyfriends. Alexander quickly ducked away the moment the taller guy glanced in his direction
“What are you looking at that isn’t me?!”
“Sorry Felix, I thought I saw something.”
Alexander packed his belongings into his schoolbag and snuck away from his hiding place. There was a second stairway he knew about from his frequent visits to the roof, and with the two strangers blocking the main one that second one would be his escape route today. It seems their conversation kept them distracted long enough as he was never discovered in his escape.
The encounter kept his mind occupied all throughout the day, how did the taller one notice his presence when he was certain he was hidden well? Was that glance really at him or just in his direction? His curiosity got the better of him and the following day he returned to the same spot in hopes of seeing those two again. His patience gave out half way through his waiting and he was getting ready to head back downstairs.
Suddenly Alexander felt a hand press into his side and an another hand caressing his cheek. His heart skipped a beat and his skin instantly shot up with goosebumps. The hand on his cheek felt cold and soft and it kept him from turning his head to see whom it was. In addition, the one on his side kept him from moving away from the person’s incredibly strong grip.
“You were the distraction here yesterday.” said Felix, “Am I correct?”
“Yes I was.” Alexander replied, “Was there some kind of problem?”
“Oh nothing, I am just surprised such a handsome guy felt the need to hide instead of join.” Felix said, moving his hand from Alexander’s side down to the waist, and he leaned in closer, “Or did you not stay to watch?”
“Why would I stay to watch whatever it is you’re talking about?” Alexander asked.
“Your heart is beating so fast.” Felix commented, “I can hear it from here…bump…bump…bump.”
“When you touch someone like this of course their heart is going to beat fast.” Alexander said and tried to pull away but felt the grip become even stronger, “I don’t think your boyfriend would appreciate this position we are in.”
“You think Michael is my boyfriend do you? What if I said he’d be okay with it?” Felix asked and blew onto Alexander’s ear.
“You’re quite a piece of work, a pretty, innocent face with pervert’s attitude.” he smirked.
“You find me pretty do you? Want to know a little secret mister handsome?” Felix asked and licked Alexander’s ear.
