~ Renea Goldson ~
Year G0392 - Month 6 - Day 1
The Redwind Cottage
Renea’s pout turned into an annoyed huff as she was set down on the floor. Not wanting to get into anymore trouble she walked over to her room and crawled into her bed. Sitting down she watched Sarah walk over to the window right next to her bed and close it tightly. Along with closing it she locked both sides of it, leaving the curtains open for light.
The light illuminated the room showing the small frown that covered Sarah’s face. It wasn’t often that she let herself show when she was upset. She would almost always cover up her emotions with a smile unless if she was scolding Renea for doing something that she wasn’t supposed to.
“Sarah?” Renea spoke quietly.
“Yes darling?” Sarah responded as she walked over to the bed in order to tuck her in.
“What was that pretty golden creature?” Renea asked curiously.
At the sound of her question Sarah’s fingers froze around the blanket she was holding. Her eyes widened and she looked at Renea with shock. Her gaze stared at the young girl for a long time before she let out a sigh and placed a hand on her cheek.
“That my darling was a golden dragon, a very pregnant golden dragon at that. She was probably looking for a good place to meet and have her babies,” Sarah explained as she pulled the blanket up and around Renea as she laid down.
“Pre-ga-ant?” Renea asked her eyes scrunched together.
“No my dear pregnant. A female gets pregnant when they have a baby growing inside them,” Sarah chuckled lightly.
Renea stared up at Sarah for a long time with her eyes scrunched together. It didn’t make sense, however she may not have understood it but that didn’t make her ask. Instead of her having to ask Sarah continued after a moment.
“When a female dragon is pregnant they will do anything to protect their children. That includes destroying anything they may consider a threat. If you had yelled or done anything to get closer to the dragon it could have hurt you,” Sarah explained as she patted Renea’s head softly. The act slowly caused Renea to grow tired, but she quickly shook her head as she looked up to her keeper.
“Please my dear leave that dragon alone and don’t do anything reckless,” Sarah said as she gave Renea a tight hug. “Now you need to go to sleep.”
“But I’m not tired,” Renea pouted as she stared up at her keeper.
“Oh yes you are, I can see the grumpiness in you starting to come out,” She laughed while laying the small child down to sleep.
“No, no… I want a story,” Renea whined a bit hoping to stay up a little longer.
“Oh… I don’t know, it’s late,” Sarah muttered slowly.
“Please?” Renea asked hopefully. Staring up at Sarah she clasped her hands together and her eyes went wide, hoping to get her way.
“Okay, fine… I suppose one story won’t hurt, but only one then you are going to sleep,” Sarah said sternly.
Renea’s eyes glowed with joy as she jumped in her bed, pulling her blanket over her to get comfy. She loved stories, and Sarah would always talk about stories of her past and her family.
“Now who shall we talk about tonight?” Sarah asked as she placed a finger on her chin before she smiled. “I know, how about the story about one of your great ancestors,” Sarah grinned happily.
“I’ll tell you the story of Gast Goldson.”
