Year G0392 - Month 6 - Day 1
The Redwind Cottage
Sarah held a warm smile as she got to the door of Renea’s room, she was such a darling little girl. At times she would think of her as her own darling little girl, but she would always shake that thought away. She was Samantha’s daughter, they were nearly identical with the same golden hair and the same fascination for the stars as well.
It had already been three years since she had begun taking care of her, and watching her grow so strong. She recorded everything down in a small series of journals. It may have been a slim chance that she would ever see Samantha again, but that didn’t stop her from hoping. Even if there was a likely hood that the woman she once knew was dead.
Letting out a deep sigh she mad her way through the hallway, and towards her own room. Worry filled her as she walked forwards, the last time she had seen a dragon anywhere was when she left her home. When she had taken Renea was after her mother had demanded her to be brought to safety. When the castle was attacked.
Dragons stayed away from this mountain, that’s the reason she came to it after all. What did it mean? Was Renea going to be in danger? Quickly shaking her head fiercley she stopped in her tracks and looked down at her hands. What was she thinking? There were dragons on the earth, wild dragons, and even a few bonded dragons. This didn’t mean her or her precious Renea were in danger.
Shaking those thoughts from her head she made her way into her room, breathing deeply as she tried to calm herself. Walking over to her desk she sat down, composing herself calmly, everything would be fine and she would make sure of that. Slowly she pulled out the book she had been writing in and turned to the nearest blank page, dipping her quill into a newly opened bottle of ink she began to write.
Dear Samantha,
Once again your daughter Renea has snuck out of the house in the middle of the night. She wanted to see the stars, just like you she loves them. It wouldn’t have been bad if she had told me beforehand, however when I went to check on her during the night she wasn’t there. It was terrifying. Usually she comes to me during the night to make sure that I don’t disappear. She is so young and yet she is so smart on so many things.
She needs to stop sneaking away at night when it’s so dark, I hope that I can teach her that. She is a beautiful and very bright child with the whole world ahead of her. It was only a few weeks ago that she was able to hold a long conversation with me about the plants that we are growing in the back yard. She has already memorized most of the plants and can identify many plants that I have not known of before.
I will soon be taking her into town to purchase some more books to further her education. I dearly hope that one day you will be able to see her once again. You will surely be proud and amazed at what she has become. I will take care of her until then,
Your faithful servant,
Sarah Red-Wind
Slowly she flipped backwards through the pages in her book, glancing at the pages of writing that she had done. So many unread letters, closing the book she looked out her window with a small frown. It would take a miracle for Renea to meet her mother, and the very thought of that sent tears to her eyes. They were so much alike and they are family. Hopefully one day they will be able to meet again.
She didn’t bother writing about the dragon, it would not do well to think about it after all the dragon was most probably a wild one. Staring out the window at the full moon in the sky she noticed a streak of gold fly through the sky. It was a beautiful sight and one that she would never forget. Her lady Samantha flying through the sky on a solid gold dragon.
Maybe just maybe Renea would become a dragon rider like her one day. Turning her head Samantha looked at a long black box at the end of her bed. One day she would too train to fight like a warrior, one that would be able to protect her kingdom. That is after all what the Goldsons trained to do.
Walking passed the box she slid her hand across it, as she got into bed. That would be in a few years. After all Renea was much to small to hold it now, and she was more interested in food and books now. A book on dragons, maybe that’s what she should get for her birthday yeah that would be a nice gift.
Maybe one day on her birthday or when she is finds it through her exploring around the house. One day she would learn about it and how to use it. One day she would know her family, after all Sarah could never find it in her to lie about her family. With that thought she fell into a deep slumber.
