Eli’s POV
"So?"
"So what?" I asked, staring down at my math homework.
"What's the answer silly?" Sara asked, tapping the end of her pencil against the sheet of paper.
"I would have told you if I knew…" I said, trying not to grumble it out.
She sighed, grabbing the paper and writing out the solution, explaining as she went. "Why are you so grumpy today?" She asked as we both put our work away. "Rough day?"
"Something like that," I replied, refusing to lift my eyes from the table.
She shoulder-bumped me and leaned her face in front of mine to catch my gaze. "Well? What happened?"
"Look Sare, I really don't want to talk about it." I said, standing up to leave, but, of course, she followed.
"Why won't you tell me? We're friends aren't we?"
I stopped walking. "You know Sara, I've really tried being nice to you but you honestly really piss me off. So if you could just leave me alone, I'd appreciate it." I said stiffly, picking up my pace again.
“You don’t mean that… do you?" She stopped in front of me with the saddest expression I've ever seen.
"I do and I don’t know if you’ve noticed but you’re really great at getting between Milo and I and it’s starting to get really annoying," I pushed past her, leaving her standing in complete shock.
I can't believe I just said all of that…
Sara was a nice girl but her clingy and stubborn personality really annoyed me sometimes. Plus if she wasn't here… maybe I could be with Milo.
She ran up behind me and grabbed my arm, stopping me. “Getting between you and Milo… you don’t mean… seriously? That’s why you hate me?”
“I- yes?” I asked, confused. Did she know something I didn’t?
“Look, if you’re jealous of me because I’m dating Milo, don’t worry about it. We broke up.” She said, letting go of my arm.
“You… you WHAT?” I asked, way more surprised than I probably should have been. I thought they would be… together forever or some cheesy shit. “How- what- why?”
“Milo didn’t tell you?” Now she looked concerned. So that’s what he was upset about last night. I thought to myself. But why wouldn’t he tell me? “Well whatever, those are things for you to find out. You guys have a lot you need to talk about and you better get on it or he’ll never realize that you guys like each other.” She said, matter of factly, while I sat there in awe, once more surprised by her words.
“How did you-” I started.
“It was quite obvious. Now go get him,” She smiled, and pushed me out some doors I hadn’t realized we’d reached.
“I- thank you Sare,” And I guess I finally learned to like her.
