Hi guys,
This is Jack again! to celebrate the first five chapters of His Loss, this update is all about the characters and how I'm visualizing them in my mind, the images I've prepared today are the closest I can get them to be to each character, I'll be sharing some thoughts I had while coming up with these characters, maybe some fun facts too, I'm doing only three for today, the next three will be posted on a later date 😉.
Before I begin, I want to clarify that I used the website artbreeder to create these images, in case some of you wanted to know. and now to our main Protagonist.
Puma (Owl Human-Hybrid):
- I have yet to give Puma and the other characters their last name, maybe side characters will have them, so far I prefer no last names for this novel, I don't want to put too much focus on it at this point, maybe I'll do that in the future, I'll see how things go.
- Why I gave him the name Puma? so, I'm bilingual, and my native language is Arabic, " بومة" Buma in Arabic means an Owl, but in some Arab cultures, if someone calls you a Buma, then they're basically calling you a jinx. I didn't use the "B" letter because I wanted the characters in the Novel to think that he was a Puma, like the wild cat, I don't think most situations in the novel would require our characters to reveal their Hybrid animals, so for the sake of the elements of shock, surprise, and disappointment, I decided to name him with the letter "P", Plus his sister's name starts with a "P" being twins, it just works with me to have their names begin with the same letter.
- Why I made him an Owl Human Hybrid? Puma is a very close character to my heart, I created him after an experience of my own when someone I thought was a very dear person to me, called me out for being a jinx, I wasn't even doing anything bad, I was just standing next to them when they were faced with a sudden problem, I offered solutions, I thought they would work, most of them didn't work, the last solution they didn't want to do, they were full of rage they popped off in my face, that person had previously told me about people using Buma as an insult, it stuck in my mind, and during the days after the incident, Puma along with his twin sister came alive inside my imagination. that was a few years ago, it was not until recently that I felt confident enough to start writing this novel, and I'm pretty happy I did.
- Puma is twenty-nine years old, but like I mentioned in the novel when Puma Met Maverick, Puma can pass as younger than that.
- Puma Has a twin sister named Paloma.
- In my visualization of Puma I gave him yellowy golden eyes like some Owls in real life, I also gave him dark circles to visualize his tiredness and lack of sleep.
- You won't see it in the image below but imagine him with white wings.
Raynard (Fox Human-Hybrid):
- Why I gave him the name Raynard? It was a pretty easy decision once I stumbled upon the name, I was doing research about foxes and their names, I tend to do that for each character, I even look up their species names, Raynard is an alternate spelling of Reynard (Old German, Old French): the French word for fox.
- Why I made him a Fox Human Hybrid? This one was decided recently when I started to write the Novel, previously, whenever I thought about the plot and how it would progress, the human hybrid for this character was a basic dog, then I thought to do some research and look up the animals that don't get along with Owls, the Fox was among them, after thinking about it, and doing more research, the more I read the more I thought who is better to be our CEO than a Fox Hybrid? They're cunning, sly, versatile, and resourceful animals.
- Raynard is the CEO of Fox Holdings, I'll explain further into the novel about him being a CEO.
- Raynard is Noir's older brother, and he's very protective of him, I'll write more about their relationship further into the novel.
- Raynard is Thirty-six years old, I wanted to make him look middleaged and young at the same time, I mean CEOs should have the resources to make them look young, but the stress of the job and holding such a high position should also play as a factor of making him look his age if you know what I mean.
Paloma (Dove Human-Hybrid):
Finally our dearest Paloma, where do I begin with this one?
- Why I gave her the name Paloma? although I have decided on her Human Hybrid animal a few years ago, Like Raynard I have just recently decided on her name, I did my usual research of animal names and their meaning, then I stumbled upon the name Paloma. When I tell you that this name fits perfectly with everything that the character I had in my mind is, let me just quote my research, "Derived from the Latin word "palumbus", Paloma means “dove.” Fans of Greek mythology will associate doves with the goddess of love, Aphrodite." that's one of them, "Paloma is a female given name, derived from Latin "palumbus", which means "dove", a symbol of peace. The name also can be understood as the Holy Spirit symbolized in this bird." that's Wikipedia. There's so much more but this is a snippet of it.
- Why I made her a Dove Human Hybrid? I basically wanted her to be the exact opposite of what Puma is since they are twins, I still wanted her to be a bird, a white bird to be exact because white doves are the symbol of peace, actually, after I decided that she will be a white Dove, I then decided that Puma should also be a white Owl, I wanted them to be so alike yet so opposite, I mean, if only Puma was like his sister, right?
- Paloma is twenty-nine years old, as well.
- In my visualization of Paloma I gave her yellowy golden eyes like a picture of a white dove I found online, just like her twin brother.
- You won't see it in the image below but imagine her with white wings.
I think this is it for today, Thank you for supporting His Loss, I hope you're having so much fun reading this novel just as much I'm having while writing it. I'll make sure to share more about my characters in the future as the novel progresses, if you have questions about certain characters, or if there is a specific character you'd like me to share and create a visualization on, let me know in the comment, maybe I'll answer these questions in the next character visualization post, as long as they don't spoil the plot.
Eat well & Stay healthy,
- Jack.
