Master signaled with her fist raised beside her head. She focused on a cave a few feet up the mountain. I was signaled to go first. I quickly chanted a spell and disappeared into the shadows.
I firmly placed my hands over my nose and mouth as I entered the cave. Animal corpses were scattered on the ground. Rotting flesh and feces were smeared on the cave walls. Worried I might leave footprints, I cast a spell, “````````````````````````````.” A path stretched across the cave floor.
The cave was dark and cold. My invisibility spell became easier to manage the further I moved into the darkness, however, seeing was becoming difficult, “```````.” I cast the spell and my eyes filled with magic. Slowly the cave became more visible.
“Sssss,” A monster turned around the corner, and I decided to follow it. The monster moved carefully through the corridors. Its head bobbed from side to side with each step it took. His split tongue jutted out every three steps. His snake-like head glanced around the cave, looking for something.
The monster clumsily made his way to an enormous door. It opened slowly, and I snuck my way into a large chamber. The room was surprisingly well lit. I sculked to the shadows. I concentrated on my invisibility magic as it became harder to maintain in the light.
“Well, if it isn’t my favorite child. How have patrols been?” A monster sitting on a throne spoke. His stomach protruded outward as the animal he ate recently moved in his belly. The artifact was sitting by the throne. It was an irregular orb with a dark red glow. How did something so peculiar make these cold-blooded monsters feel the need to hide in the cold mountains?
“Boring as always. I never have anything to do. The scouts kill all the humans before they make it here.”
“They are rather weak, but if there is any chance that Guardians still exist, we must be cautious.”
“Guardians can’t still be around. The Red Eyed Sorcerer killed them.”
“Don’t speak his name, fool!” The monster on the throne looked around the room, “If he knew we had the orb, not a single one of us would get away.”
“What’s so important about that orb? I hate the cold-“
