"Hello," I called out, pulling my head back out. I hate being scared. I felt the same awry feeling I did back in the dining room.
"Hey!" someone called. They seem farther away than I thought they would be. It almost sounded like an echo.
"Where are you?" I said, poking back in and stepping down on the visible staircase with one foot. Nothing. I waited around a little bit more. Still nothing. I dragged my other foot down the second, less visible step. My hand dug into the wall. The cool breeze kissed my cheek as I gazed out into nothingness, and I could feel my heart trying to escape my body. Was this a way to the outside? Why does it feel like I shouldn't have come here? "Hey!" I yelled. Suddenly, the staircase broke from underneath me, and I felt myself falling into the abyss. I screamed as I tried to position both of my arms in front of me to eventually break my fall when I hit the ground, but I could feel myself flipping in the darkness. "Help!" I screamed until my throat was sore. But it was useless, I felt like I’d been falling forever. I didn't think a three-story drop would take this long. I tried to relax myself, hoping for a quick and painless death. Then, before I knew it, I passed out.
When I opened my eyes, I couldn't believe it. I was still alive. I could hear the seagulls cawing in the air, the wind whistling in my ear, and feel the insects crawling on me and the soft grass beneath me. But then it struck me. I hadn't been to nor lived in a coastal town before. I was supposed to be inside a "haunted" mansion in an inland college town. I slowly got up and looked at my surroundings. The palm trees shaded me from the sun, and I could see a sandy beach free of junk and a pure blue ocean. Either I had found the best resort ever, or that I had found a piece of isolated society.
"Nicole! Nikki!" I called out, in the hopes that it was just some stupid prank. Even though Nicole wouldn’t plan out a prank this harsh to this extreme, a part of me wishes that she had. That she was just looking on safely somewhere out of place. I had walked further into the forest, hoping to find some hidden camera, someone, anyone, all while calling out for Nicole.
I felt a sharp whip in the air near my face. I turned only to see an arrow planted in a tree, only inches away from my face. I gasped in terror and slowly backed away. Was someone hunting me?
"Hey!" they said. I recognized that voice. It was the voice from before. I turned to see several people with bows drawn, all dressed in scraps. I started to back away, thinking that I could outrun them. But I knew that was a futile attempt if anything. I could never outrun their arrows. One approached me before the others; it was the voice I recognized. "We have another one."
