Ch.2: Who am I?

Ch.2: Who am I?

Sep 18, 2022

I opened my eyes, to find myself at a charging station. It wasn't the ones we have at the power plant, there was only one and it looked handmade. I looked around the room, it looked pretty old, but well cared for. The floorboards creaked as I walked, and the walls looked rusty, but there wasn't a speck of dust or cobweb to be seen. It smelled horrible though. Wait, smell? I'm not supposed to be able to smell. Come to think of it, I was just dismantled, and where am I? I try to get out of the place but the doors are sealed shut. I pull, and I pull, but it's no use, I'm not a comba-

It opened, not in the normal door way but more in an opening a can of tuna kind of way. I peek outside and I see a beautiful forest, creatures I had never seen before, and the sun! I've never seen the sun before, not in person anyway. Occasionally I would see it in one of my hallucinations but I've never looked at it with my own two "eyes". It was magical!

At that moment I had another hallucination. It was a man with a lean build, short black-blue hair, and shining red eyes. He was riding a rather large horse and coming towards me, he dismounted and pointed a sword at my throat. But I was not afraid or in pain, rather I was intrigued. Why was he here? Why was he here for me?

When I came to, I was laying in the fetal position on the damp grass. I got up and decided to prepare for his arrival. But prepare what? Was he friendly? He was going to hold a sword to my throat, but considering he held it to my throat means he doesn't even know how to kill me does he? That fact was comforting because I had just died. Nothing is truly scary to me anymore, and being here is more like a spa compared to the power plant.

I cleared out the debris-covered lawn within a few minutes, it looked way worse than it actually was. Now I can get a good look at the place I woke up. It's actually pretty cute. It's a little hobbit hole on the side of a hill, it has a singular window and a stone chimney coming out the top. But after how I opened the door I would need to do repairs, a high-tech metal door isn't very welcoming anyway.

I looked around and decided to use some of the debris I cleaned before to make a door. I stacked some wood against the frame and quickly realized I don't know how to make a door. So instead of having an actual door, this'll have to do. Guest preparation is finished! Now to arrange for if he's a murderer.

I go through my semi-door and try to look for something to hit him with. I look around the room and see a buzz saw! That'd be perfect but... you know what? I think I've had enough of saws. I quickly left and decided a rock would do, I chose a big one so I could get rid of him if necessary. It was round, smooth, and large enough that I needed two hands to carry it.

I'm finished but I want somewhere to sit. Who knows how long I'll be waiting? My hallucinations usually take a few hours to come true but once it took a week. I went back into the foul-smelling hobbit hole and saw a door. I didn't notice it there before but I was a bit distracted with all the stuff going on. I pull, and nothing. I forgot to turn the knob... The other door had a knob too didn't it? I know I had other things on my mind, but come on!  How inattentive can I be!?

I turned the knob this time and looked inside. It was a large staircase going down. I practically flew down the stairs, if the staircase was this big then the room is bigger. A big room means something important is being stored down there. I had to see it! If I woke up in the room next to it. It could have a clue as to why I'm here! I dropped to the end of the staircase and looked around.

This was... Disappointing, nothing like how I imagined it would be. Somehow the room was smaller than the staircase! This was it!? There were a few papers scattered across a shoddy desk and a mirror. I take a glance at my reflection. While I don't usually look in the mirror I was SURE that wasn't my face. I'm supposed to have short black hair, not long white hair. My eyes were still blue but they were better looking on my new face. I'm quite beautiful if I do say so myself! I have a rectangle body shape and am about 5'10.

Somehow I was able to pry myself away from the mirror and look at the papers. On the paper, it had the model of something called a C.L.A.R.A? I read into it and C.L.A.R.A. stood for "Computerized, Laudable, Authentic, Revolutionary, Android". Whoever created the thing was just trying to brag about how great it is. I flip the page and see a picture of me, or at least my new body.

I'm the C.L.A.R.A? Why did the person who made me need to be a blowhard? Well, this was useless, but I got a name out of it at least. 4-63 doesn't sound very human. If I'm gonna fit in  I'm going to need a name. I take the wobbly chair from the desk and go outside. I placed it next to my perfect rock and sat, and then I remembered that I'm not human and don't get tired. But I need to look like one so it's not completely pointless I guess.

I sit. And I wait. For five. Whole. Hours. Those hours felt like years. I forgot what boredom felt like since I left the power plant. Screw it, I'm not waiting for a prince charming to come and attempt to kill me! Why did I have to go through all this trouble for someone like that? I start to trek through the forest. I contemplated grabbing the charging station but that's a part of the building, so unless I wanted to bring the hill with me it's out of the question. Power magic is made with energy so as long as I keep moving I'll be fine, the power plant only had them because our job isn't very energetic.

Then I see it, a man with black hair and red eyes riding towards me. What was that about me not being afraid? Nevermind.

Unit 4-63 was living as Android would. Well... living is an overstatement considering she wasn't treated as a human would be. She's a robot after all, she doesn't actually have feelings. Or does she? Something was definitely wrong. She had always been an outcast. She couldn't fit in with other Androids, they were all just lifeless pencil pushers. She couldn't fit in with the humans because she didn't feel all the emotions as them. Her company had enough; They decided they didn't need a defect on their team and sent her to be dismantled. When she got dismantled, they discovered something odd, time magic. Androids are supposed to have power magic so they run properly. Time magic would make it so they SEE time, and after death they go to a random point in time. Wait…
