“Already capturing girls’ hearts I see Shayde,” Aurora teased, giggling.
“Shut up, you're the one who somehow manages to get all the guys, and yet here you are. Single.” Aurora didn't bother dignifying his statement with a response. She just rolled her eyes and went on unpacking her stuff.
“Let’s go, the welcoming ceremony is starting,” Shayde hustled, impatient with Aurora’s perfectionist side coming out of its shell. He knew if he let her continue, they'd end up missing the whole thing.
“Fiiinnneeee, i'm coming chill out doofus,” Aurora sighed, knowing what shayde was thinking. She knew he was right but she refused to admit it, that would boost his ego too much.
“Hey Aurora, Did you know we have a new chancellor of the camp this year?”
“Wait really? What happened to Voxis? I didn't know he was planning on leaving, i had so many things I wanted to talk to him about,” Aurora said, dejectedly.
“I heard that he’s traveling, you know how much he wanted to explore and see new things.”
“Yeah… true,” Aurora looked up at the sky, wondering how Voxis was doing.
“Hey Aurora, Can I talk to you real quick?” Blyze asked, jogging over with a trail of flames licking the grass behind him.
“Do you still wanna train your fire powers?” Blyze murmured under his breath, just loud enough for the three of them to hear.
“Yea, that’d be great,” Aurora said, in the same hushed tone. Afterall, no one else knew how advanced and numerous her powers were. She had just learned of her affinity to fire last year, and had recruited Blyze to help her control them. Blyze of course was the unlikely choice, he was brash and loud and looked like an airhead. Someone with all brawn and no brains. Yet beneath his golden, sun-kissed skin and sandy brown hair was someone with a heart of gold. Aurora would trust him with her life (which she was already doing by letting him in on her secret).
“So, have you met the new chancellor yet?” Aurora inquired, pretending like they hadn't just been talking about something that could get them all killed.
“Yea, I’m not gonna lie, he seems a bit creepy. He’s also really curious about our powers, so be careful, ok?” Blyze responded, letting the end drift off.
The three of them walked into the amphitheater and sat in their respective areas. Aurora was the captain of Malis (which she hadn’t actually volunteered for, Shayde had forced her) so she sat at the front of their section with Shayde by her side.
“WELCOME STUDENTS,” a voice boomed and echoed from behind the stage, “My name is…
