Yuri feels the heat rising around the waterfall. The shadowy demon erects itself high over Val’s motionless body. Yuri is dumbfounded. She can not begin to understand what she is looking at, though she knows it can’t be good. Yuri reaches for her belt and pulls out a pair of climbing picks. Would they be effective weapons against something of this caliber? Yuri could not say, but something was better than nothing. Yuri awaits the creature's attack, but it doesn’t move. It seems to be doing the same thing. Thus, Yuri makes the first move. She lunges forward towards the demon, ready to slash it with the picks. The creature reaches down towards Val and lifts up her body, guarding her with one of its amorphous limbs. Before Yuri’s attack connects, the creature dissipates into smoke, and so does Val. Yuri frantically looks about. The creature is nowhere to be seen. She can’t hear any footsteps over the sound of the waterfall’s crashing wake, though she isn’t sure if the creature would even make a sound as it moved. She stands still, waiting. It would be dangerous to leave the demon unattended without knowing its capabilities.
