Necromancer's Otherworld Journey

Chapter 8.1: UNDERGROUND

Chapter 8.1: UNDERGROUND

Sep 26, 2022

Ahead of him, Mrit finally saw light in the endless path he is now walking. After walking for hours, he finally came near a source of light, showing the end of this long tunnel.

“Finally!! I can see the end *pant*. Now I can rest.”

Relieved, he got a surge of energy and walked faster than before as he slowly covered the distance and came near the light, brightening his face. From the outside, the sound of running water can be heard as it got louder the more distance he covered.

“There must be a river. I am close.”

Because of walking in the dark tunnel, the light from outside didn’t let him get a good view of what is in front of him.

“World, I am commiing!!”

Closing his eyes from the bright light falling on his face, he finally stepped outside of the tunnel, but-

“Ahhh!!! Cold! Cold! Where’s the hell is this cold water coming from?”

As soon he stepped outside, cold water fell upon him. Due to him walking continuously, the water felt even colder.

“Arghhh!!! Let me out!! LET ME OUT!!”

Getting splattered by cold water continuously over his head, he frantically ran forward before toppling and falling into the water on his face.

“Gahhh… I am out now.”

Opening his eyes, he found himself submerged to the chest in the water

“So the end was the waterfall. Damn it, now I am all wet.”

Looking back, he found himself in front of a waterfall that just showered cold water above him.

“Let’s get out of here carefully.”

Swimming near the land, he got out of the pool of water and sat near a tree. After that, he took out his clothes and put them on the branch of the tree.

Now naked, Mrit lay down under the tree and collected his breath.

“Fuhhh!! Finally, we are out of that goddamn long tunnel. Are you fine Totopa?”

Alongside him, Totopa also laid down, all wet.

“…Topaaa!”

With a tired voice, Totopa replied as he lay on his back all wet.

“You are all wet, too? This is not good. We might catch a cold or worst, a fever. But what can we do to dry ourselves?”

Just when he tried to think of a solution, suddenly, his eyes fell upon his right hand, more specifically on the stigma of the sun.

“I can use the power of the sun to dry myself!!”

A rather absurd idea appeared in his mind. Activating the stigma of the sun, the aura of the sun enveloped him. Slowly, the water evaporated.

“This works!! Totopa, come here.”

Totopa then jumped on Mrit’s chest as he also got enveloped by the aura of the sun.

While they both were getting dried, the dark system suddenly popped up.

[Hahaha!! The owner has found the true meaning of the blessing of the sun. It is advisable to use the power of death to conquer this world rather than using a dryer.]

While the dark system spouts nonsense while laughing, a bright golden system appeared, seemingly annoyed by the dark system.

[It rather proves that the owner can be versatile with the power of the sun. The owner doesn’t require a power that stinks and rots.]

[What did you say, you white ass?]

[Fuck off, you black tar of filth.]

While the two delved into their racist argument, Mrit, being completely dried, overlooked the scenery in front of him.

“It’s….beautiful.”

Looking at the sparkling, clean water and the huge waterfall with greenery around it, his eyes became moist.

For many years, surrounded by the destruction of human civilization and death, he has forgotten how the world really looked.

Now, remembering the past, he felt nostalgic. Mesmerized by the scenery, he stood there for a few more minutes, delving into the surrounding greenery.

After a while, he dried his clothes and then took out his luggage from the storage ring.

“Let’s set the camp now.”

Setting up a camp and a bonfire, he sat down on the ground. The sun finally has gone down, and the moon made its way to the sky, glowing as the night enveloped the world.

While he was making his meal, he pondered on what way he has to choose now.

“What should I do now? I can easily obliterate that goddess by becoming one with death again, but I cannot accept that, more like I do not want to.”

His experience with the power of death naturally made him repel the thought of accepting the power.

“Then there is this power of the sun. I didn’t hear about a power related to the sun on earth nor in this world from that priest.”

Before he was thrown here, on the second day on this planet, he tried to find out more about the powers and work how of this world from the priest.

“I cannot give you an answer as of right now, hero. You haven’t been blessed, goddess, so forgive me, but I cannot say anything for now.”

But this was the reply he got. The priest refused, probably banned from talking about this by the goddess to newly summoned heroes. But Mrit didn’t back down.

“You think I will accept your words like that? Listen here, you piece of shit. I am in no mood to joke with you or your goddess.”

“Isn’t it your duty to guide and inform the newly summoned heroes? Then why are you not telling me anything?“

Grabbing the priest by his collar, Mrit tried to get words out of the priest’s mouth but the priest remained silent.

After a bit of an argument, the silver hero who was also present there finally gave Mrit some information.

“Mrit, calm down and listen to me. Though I cannot interfere with the rules of the church, I guess I can tell you a bit about the powers here.”

The priest, though, looked a little repulsed, but he didn’t protest. Getting his acknowledgment, Naash then slowly spoke about the basics of power here.

“Before the time when the devils invaded earth, you might have played some games, right?”

“Yeah, so what?”

“Then it is mostly the same as the RPG games we used to play here.”

Like in any RPG, this world also has a class system, with classes starting from mage, warrior, and rouge.

“Other than that, there are jobs, too. As you level up to a certain point or encounter anything special, you might get a prompt of job advancement. You will keep your previous job, but can change to other jobs when the time comes.”

“After you will get your status window, you might keep your previous class as well. Though it is a very rare possibility, I advise you to think about a new class you might want to stick to. ”

“Then at what level did you get your first job?”

Mrit asked with curiosity. Though they were at the time of the apocalypse, the top awakened didn’t let people spread much information about their jobs. So now that he got a chance to know about an awakened he once respected, he didn’t shy away from asking.

“Me? That was like when I reached 50, I guess. But that doesn’t matter much as you might get job advancement at the 51st level too. What matters is the job.”

Though he tried to inquire more about the powers and system here, the priest didn’t let Mrit do and left with Naash.

“With the status window in front of me, it can be assumed that I fell into the warrior class of the sun’s system. I knew I was a mage when I was in the body of death, but it still shocks me that I was a god.”

Not having any use of seeing at the status window on earth as it only showed maximum values of every stat, Mrit never tried to open it or thoroughly read it.

“A dual class system that many will dream of, and that between two powers who are opposite of each other, huh? If this were to be revealed at this stage when I am the weakest, it would only harm me.”

Looking at how the goddess is trying to use every awakened for her own benefit, it will not be surprising to see Mrit getting experimented on by that damn bitch if she were to get wind about his power.

“But then, what should I do next? With the other status window, I have my job as a dark magician, but with this new one, I have no job selected as of right now.”

‘And if I want to move on without relying on the power of death, I have to select a job soon.’

[If the owner wants to have a job, it is recommended to visit a Temple of the Sun.]

“But haven’t I been in there just some hours ago?”

[The temple was not operable anymore as the dead was not cremated but rather mummified there. The holy place also didn’t have any priests to perform the job selection process.]

“Then that means that was some sort of dungeon now, with me having defeated the boss.”

[Though you are correct, I warn the owner that the mummified person was once a great general of the Temple of the Sun. It is advisable to not underestimate the power of the Temple of the Sun.]

“Well, I cannot agree more. For him to resist my power of death, it is visible that he was a powerful soul.”

While the two were discussing, the black system popped, annoying the golden one.

[The power of death is beyond comprehension. You lack the qualification to use the power of death while existing with life as of right now.]

[The owner’s power is beyond the living. One cannot comprehend you and your power if you accept the body and the power of death. It is advisable to underestimate the runts of some white bulb while basking in the power of yours that is rightfully yours.]

“Alright, STFU you two, and go away. Fight inside wherever you live.”

Ignoring the two bickering systems and also ignoring the fact that the systems reside inside of him, Mrit finally laid down upon the soft grass, looking at the moon and the vast sky full of stars.

“I can’t imagine watching this back on earth. This beautiful sky…”

Stretching his hand up, trying to grab the moon, Mrit slowly closed his eyes, with a wish to look at this sky forever with this everlasting peace. His body tired of walking and fighting inside the temple finally gave up as it felt the soft grass as its bed.

“This isn’t… bad too…”

“Topaaaa.”

Lying on his chest, Totopa yawned cutely and soon both fell asleep, with the clear dark sky as their blanket and the moon as the lamp. And so, another day of his in this world ended.
