Earlier in the day, I had given Erica a call. I had told her all about what happened.
****
"So you're saying" she paused "You got a tattoo?"
"Not you too Erica!" I whined
"What?!"
"You should know more than anyone that I would never get a tattoo"
"People change"
"ERICA!" I yelled
"Okay, okay sorry. It's just...really hard to believe, but I believe you of course" she added immediately "but if this is just you making fun of me for loving horror movies, I will..."
"I swear on your life," I said and she gasped, getting how deadly serious I was. She sighed.
"Okay. What do you wanna do now?" She asked seriously.
"I want nothing to do with this. So I'm just going to have to return the key to his grandson".
"Alright then, leave it to me to find out whatever I can about the house. I'll give you feedback"
"I don't need you to do that"
"What's the harm?"
"I somehow get the feeling you're just in to play detective"
"You know me too well commander," she said in a straight voice
"You mean chief"
'Yeah yeah whatever" she chuckled, which gave me a touch of relief.
"Just don't get into it and be careful"
"Don't worry about me"
I smiled "Thanks a lot Erica"

I went up to my room after dinner. I wondered what Erica had found out. Just then my phone rang.
"Hey Erica, how'd it go?"
"Girl you are in for something big! The Tyson guy is a college student, he's really handsome and he's got these really cool green eyes and he has this..."
"Um-Erica? Don't you think you've kind of drifted -like- away from the point?"
"Oh, you're right"
"So? What's the something big" I asked and she just uhh her way on the phone. Don't tell me that was the big thing?
I pressed the bridge of my nose and sighed. For a minute she had my curiosity. I should have known she would have been thrown off by a handsome guy.
"But that's not the problem, do you have a way to get the key here?"
I gave it a thought "no"
"Then leave that to me," she said sounding excited.
"What do plan to do?"
"You don't have to worry about it, just get your things ready by tomorrow morning"
"What? Why?"
She hung up.
What do my things have to do with getting the key back?.
+++++.
"This was your plan?" I asked Erica who had on a huge grin as we stood in front of aunt Mille's house.
"Perfect right?"
"You could have just made me send you the key through a mail or something," I said and she gave me a look.
"As smart as that sounds I have no idea how a mail works"
"Thanks anyway" I wheeled my box over to the front door.
I was surprised when aunt Beatrice woke me up in the morning and told me how glad she was that I was finally hanging out with people. I was still in the confused zone, then she explained to me that Erica had phoned her and asked her to let me go camping with her and her friends.
Typical Erica.
"Now you can spend the whole summer with me," she said excitedly "I have a lot planned out. Zoe and Paula said they're in. Isn't that great Alex? now you get to be closer to them"
Zoe and Paula are Erica's other close friends and cousins, but I wasn't close to them. I always shut them down whenever they invited me over which is terrible of me but I just couldn't help it.
"I'll just be in your way and ruin the mood for all of you".
"You're saying that again?"
"Well it's true"
"No it's not," she said as I opened the door with a spare key. I went in and rolled my box up to my room as Erica still went on, trying to get me to come over.
"Just hang out with them once, just once. Please?" she dragged. I sighed and looked over at her. Out of nowhere, it became a staring contest.
"I'm still not going," I said seriously but more likely out of pity cause her eyes were already getting teary.
"Fine then" she blew up "I'm not talking to you anymore"
I knew she meant it.
I knew Erica was just worried about me. She's been that way ever since that day.
"Alright. Fine. But don't blame me if they never want to see you again".
"Does that mean you'll come?!" She looked excited again. She gets up real fast.
I sighed and took out the strange key I had with me. "But I still need to get this key back to the owner"
"Then let's go right away"
"Now?"
"Of course. We have a lot to get ready for. Come on" with that she dragged me out.
We walked over to the next street and finally came to the front of the house.
I was feeling nervous.
"We're here," Erica said and I looked at her "By the Alex, you're still in for a big surprise"
"If it's about how handsome the grandson is again I'll just remind you here that I'm not interested in that"
"Oh don't you worry. You'll be interested in this one" she smiled mischievously and went for the doorbell. We waited.
Suddenly, we heard a loud crash from inside followed by a scream.
I looked at Erica with my eyes widened and she had the same expression. She reached out her hand for the knob and I grabbed it.
"What are you doing?! You can't just enter someone else's house anyhow" I whispered
"But you just heard that right. This must be a crime. We have to check it out" she whispered back as I released her hand
"Don't just go making up stuff in your head. And if this is actually a crime I think you mean we should call the police. we can't get...and she's gone!" I said as Erica hurriedly went in. I followed behind her knowing I wasn't actually being smart at the moment.
I could hear arguing.
Two guys?
Erica peeped through the corridor as I stood behind her.
What are they arguing about?
"What the-" Erica muttered and I saw her look astonished. I was wondering what she was seeing when she finally moved in to be fully seen. Without taking her eyes off what she was looking at she said "You've gotta see this"
Confused, I moved closer to her and saw what was going on. Strangely I wasn't surprised. Most of the objects in the room were floating high close to the Ceiling. I looked at the first guy on the other side of the room. He had his hands out and his eyes were glowing green. I wasn't sure if they were his real eye color.
but I was sure they were glowing.
No surprise that I wasn't surprised. I mean, I've had a strange tattoo draw itself to my back which also glows, I've seen a foggy face in a mirror and my dream had become real, what else could be surprising.
"Tyson! That was grandpa's favorite mug and you just broke it!"
Tyson? Found him.
"I didn't mean to. This wouldn't have happened if you'd just let me have just this one!" The guy with the glowing eyes said. I couldn't see the other person cause he had his back to us. But immediately, I knew who it was. his voice also sounded familiar. Really familiar.
No way it could possibly be him, I told myself
"Oh, now it's my fault?!. put everything down this minute or else"
"Or else what?"
"Or else I'll burn all your video games"
The guy with the glowing eyes - or rather Tyson gasped and said "you can't do that"
"Oh can't I?"
Really really familiar.
For a moment he seemed to think over it, then he leveled his hand down slowly as the floating objects also settled for a normal form.
The house was silent. No one moved for a while. They also didn't seem to have noticed us. Oh, wait-Tyson looked in our direction and his eyes widened. He opened his mouth to say something.
Just as I was about to react. The other guy who had his back to us suddenly ran across the room really fast and jumped over the chair, taking Tyson down before he could react.
"Oww, that must have hurt," Erica said as we both went over to see what was going on behind the chair.
I couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with the two of them. The other guy was over Tyson and they seemed to be struggling with something.
"Give it to me!"
"Never!" Tyson said and they kept tugging.
"That's how it is huh?. Fine" The other guy began to tickle Tyson, and might I say. I had never seen anyone laugh so hard from being tickled. Something fell out of Tyson's hand and immediately the boy grabbed it and stood up.
This height.
"H-hey...that's-that's not...fair" Tyson was practically out of breath.
"I'm keeping this"
He turned and I caught the smell of his cologne immediately. He stood three centimeters away from me and our eyes met.
My heart thumped.
He stood quietly, maintaining the distance for a while as he looked down at me. I couldn't move, I was frozen. Those blue eyes sucked me in and my stupid heart wouldn't give me a minute to think.
He stepped back a little and looked over from me, to Erica, then to me.
Tyson who had finally gotten over his laughing problem stood up and stood next to him.
"I tried to tell you Tyler. I think we have guests"
