Tsu heard light snores. She gently pulled back and was pleasantly met with Khan's sleeping face. She smiled to herself. She loved when he was sleeping. It meant he was getting much-deserved rest and that she could hold him while he did so. Her thumb gently brushed over his freckles, just barely dancing around the dark circles beneath his eyes. Guilt crept up on her once again. She hated putting more on the plate that he already overstacks for himself.
When the medication finally began to take effect, and every twitch of the muscles didn't make Tsu miserable, she was ready to drag herself out of bed. She slowly sat up, the stirring woke Khan as well. Tsu gave herself a good stretch. When she finished, Khan was already at the edge of the bed, looking back at her with arms positioned for her to climb onto his back. Tsu blinked, her heart swelling with gratitude. "Babe, you don't have to—"
"I want to," he said, plainly.
Tsu pursed her lips. She knew that if she tried to talk, she would just start bawling. So she said nothing and let him carry her out of the room.
In the kitchen, Khan gently let Tsu down and she took her seat at the table. He spared no time to begin fixing two cups of coffee. That's my job, she thought, feeling more guilt over him having to take on her tasks.
Khan presented her with a hot mug. Without a word, he kissed her forehead and returned to start breakfast.
It wasn't easy, but she did her best to keep her voice steady as she spoke. "Thank you, babe. I appreciate it."
"Of course, sweetie," he said, glancing over his shoulder with a smile as he placed the eggs in the pan.
Eventually, Khan arrived at the table with their plates. "I decided to do something a little different," he said, taking a seat across from her. The plate he'd set in front of her had a delicious-looking syrup-drizzled waffle sandwich, filled with the usual fried egg and bacon and the not-so-usual spinach.
"I know it looks bad, but I tried to have fun," he shrugged, taking a sip of his coffee with a small chuckle.
"Oh, stop it," Tsu laughed in turn, grabbing her fork and knife. She cut off a small piece and took a bite. She closed her eyes and purred in joy. Khan did not disappoint. He never does. It was just the sweet and savory combination her stomach needed. The waffle was crisp and golden, and the spinach was fresh. The egg was soft, but not too runny. The bacon was tender, and the syrup added a subtle sweetness that was just enough. She washed it down with a sip of her coffee and sighed. It was perfect.
Tsu looked at Khan, who'd already had eyes on her with a soft, familiar smile on his face. A warm glow filled her chest everytime he looked at her that way.
