“What was that?”
“One of the lamps fell over.”
No! I turned my attention to the lamp—a shadow cast on the wall in the shape of a human.
“Show yourself.”
I glided through the shadows while the monsters were distracted. From behind the throne, I carefully reached for the orb. Marcia appeared; I hastily grabbed the artifact as monsters quickly surrounded her. “`````````.” I placed the orb into my sack as a deep red swirled around the room. The lights instantly went out, and the darkness began to consume everything around it.
“The artifact!” The leader yelled. I grabbed Marcia, and we slipped past the monsters. Everyone ran from the room.
“`````````,” Marcia faded out of sight once more.
“Find them! Find the orb! If the sorcerer gets it, we will all die.”
“```````````````” Master, Jonah, I’ve got the orb. Get out of here.
My spell traveled through the cave, reaching the ears of my family. Marcia and I ran for the exit.
“SSSSSSsss-sorry, don’t hurt me!”
A bone-chilling laugh reverberated through the cave. “Sorry? Do you think that’s enough? Where is the orb, little snake?”
“Hisss highnessss ha-hassss it.”
“Wrong!”
CRACK!
Marcia stepped back, knocking me onto the floor. “Well, where’s the orb, you two?”
