The Omega Test

Pack Life (2/3)

Pack Life (2/3)

Oct 14, 2022

“Alpha’s Red, Coal, Hiro, Luke and Jayden. You five will patrol the Alpha Den and make sure to stop any unnecessary fights. If it is a quick Challenge supervise it and make sure no blood is spilled. Any wolf that Challenges for the Alpha Den itself will be put on hold until I’ve come back in a month. If it’s for Beta position then Alpha Flag and Alpha Knox will both be taking on those Challenges together.” The Alpha’s agreed.

“What if there’s a problem that the Beta’s can’t solve?” An Alpha spoke up.

“Anything regarding the Pack will be brought to our Beta’s first then they will pass a message on to me. If any of you are having troubles bring it to our Beta’s or the five wolves I mentioned. All Alpha’s will report to our Beta’s and anything they can solve will be handled by them or it will be brought to my attention.”

I looked back to the Beta’s and they nodded. “Make sure to talk to the cooks for any misbehaving wolf. They will be the secondary Beta’s and because of their experience they will hold seniority. Anything they say goes.”

“Yes Alpha,” they said and I got up to sort out the new Beta’s. I told them who would be the head Beta and told them my plan for them. They agreed and the Pack felt at peace with the new Rank’s in place. I told them my next steps and they agreed and would watch our Pack.

“Thank you Alpha Angel, We trust you.”

“How is the food store? Do we still have leftover stew or deer?”

“Not much, we’ve been rationing it out for the whole Pack.” I nodded relieved to see that we’ve kept the Pack fed.

“Good, good. Hopefully this is settled soon, I’m still in training so I won’t be put on patrol to help with the issue. But I hope I settled our Pack down at least.”

“We understand, you are doing bigger things in life. Most Alpha’s of the Alpha Den don’t come back when they finish their training. Thank you for coming back for us, thank you for relieving our worries.”

“I trust you, our Pack is your paws,” I lowered my head to them out of respect and walked out to find the Pack in a calm space. Love was talking to my friends and probably getting updated on what his role is. I shuffled my feet for a moment and walked over to them, Love smiling at seeing me rushed over and gave me a quick hug and let go out of embarrassment.

“I uh, I heard you howling Silver Moon.  What was wrong?”

“Claiming my Pack, I have Beta’s that will look after them while I’m away. Why haven’t you told me what was happening to the Pack?” I asked as I looked him over a moment and noticed that he was getting slimmer.

“I didn’t want to worry you, you already have training.”

“That’s no excuse, I would like to know what’s going on with the Pack. Speaking of, I want to ask a favor.”

“Of course!”

“Would you mind passing messages from Alpha Flag and Alpha Knox to me. And if you can relay what I want them to do?”

“Yes, I can do that!” Love beamed. “I’m happy that you want me involved with your pack Silver Moon.”

“I shouldn’t be asking you to do this, it feels like its too much...” I stopped myself and sighed. “Thank you, Love.”

Love nuzzled my shoulder and we walked back to the Beta’s and started talking about what kind of messages that Love will be sending me and what I’ll be sending them. After that, I told Love to wait for me while I went to talk to the Alpha of my current plans for the Alpha Den.

I seen two wolves standing guard at the Alpha’s Office.

“Permission to speak with the Alpha, I am Alpha Angel the current Alpha of the Alpha Den.”

“No one enters,” the guards growled.

“It’s regarding the current state of the Pack,” I spoke louder and not wavering one bit.

“Omega-Born’s are forbidden-”

“Alpha Angel, Enter!” the voice from the Office said. The guards step aside growling and I entered the office that was mostly made of wood. It was like stepping into a log cabin. “What do you want?”

“I’m requesting that my Alpha’s will be put on Hunting Parties. Anything my Alpha’s catch will be for the Alpha Den, any leftover will be given to the Pack. I understand that the Alpha Den can not make such demands of the Alpha, but the Chefs of the Alpha Den has been sharing our rations to the Pack.”

“Yes, go on.”

“The Chefs agreed to this and will help the Pack. With the efforts of my Alpha’s we can survive this Famish. I placed Alpha Flag as my Beta and Alpha Knox as my second Beta. The Chefs are acting as Senior Beta’s. I’ve also placed Alpha’s Red, Coal, Hiro, Luke and Jayden as officers for the Alpha Den.”

“You’ve made quick work of the Alpha Den, I’m impressed.”

“My next step for the Alpha Den is to have Coach referee the Challenges. Any Challenge to my position will be when I come back up in a month. Any Challenges towards my Beta will be handled by both Flag and Knox together.”

“I’ll let Coach know of your plan but if he doesn’t agree with it then the Challenges will be as they were before.”

“Understood, I’ll let my Beta’s know and we can handle it from there.”

“Let the Chef’s of the Alpha Den know that all meal preparations will be by their paws.”

“Understood, I’ll have my seven wolves deliver the food to the Omega District. Any cooked and uncooked food as well as rations that we can spare. Please let the Chef’s know of the list of the Omega District and they can handle it from there with the help of my Alpha’s.”

“Your Alpha’s will be hunting for the Pack,” I felt relieved with this, “All Challenges towards you will be held before the Stage. Any Alpha can Challenge you for your Position.”

“I understand. my first priority will be to the Alpha Den when I come back up and then to the Challenges. I will let the Alpha’s know the next step if my Position is taken.”

“You can’t continue to be the Alpha of the Alpha Den when you are training to become a Delta. Make your choices wisely these coming Challenges.”

“I trust my Pack. They have given me a clear image of who they would want as their next Alpha. I will not let my Pack down when giving them the Alpha they want.”

“Who would that Alpha be?”

“An Alpha who stands tall and doesn’t weaver from what they think is right, hunts for the pack and takes care of their needs, checks on them and makes sure that they are okay, understands and listens to them, strong in strength and heart, humble and treats their Pack as equals.”

“Your Pack trusts you,” Alpha Rodger laughed, “You are a great Leader already, continue to grow into a fine young wolf. Leave the rest to me, you are dismissed.”

“Thank you Alpha Rodger, please take care of our Pack.” I walked out and as soon as the door closed behind me the guard grabbed my arm with a growl. Looking at him I wondered if it was okay to put him in his place.

These weren’t my wolves.

I was roughly shoved and I was more surprised that I wasn’t thrown against the wall with that kind of force. I made it look more like a gentle push, was I really stronger than these wolves?

Looking between them with indifference I started walking back to the Alpha Den.

“What happened?” one of the guards whispered as I was walking.

“I went easy on him...” they continued to talk as I went out of earshot.

Going back to the Alpha Den I gathered the Beta’s and told them what Alpha Rodger had told me and what was going to happen if my Position was won. The Chef’s were pleased about this and agreed to send out food when needed and the seven wolves also agreed to hand them out.

The Alpha’s were happy to go out to hunt and I gave them a crash course of what is to be expected while hunting. The Alpha’s passed the word along and it felt as if the Alpha Den was back to its usual self. I felt relieved at this and went to check out the rest of the Pack with Love trailing behind me talking about... something I guess.

After a while we walked back to the Delta Cave. It seems he was finished with his classes and was coming to see me since it was technically my day off. I took Love’s hand when the door was closed behind us and I felt so at home in the darkness. Love on the other hand didn’t like it but just for me endured it.

I guess we should have stayed out longer but I was feeling tired from such a busy but slow day. Down here we need to get rest when we can and remain on alert when were out of the safety of our rooms. The only rule that can by pass it is if you are with your Mate or your Mate visits.

No one touches the Mates of the Delta’s.

If a Mate is hurt then the Delta will go into a frenzy trying to find who had laid hands on their Mates. Some Delta’s won’t even tolerate anyone touching their Mate regardless of who it was. It can be let go if the scent is on the tail or shoulder where it’s normal to find other scent of wolves. But mostly it’s verbal greetings and we all greet each other in one form or another.

Some aren’t lucky to go Up Top so any Delta that can get a whiff of someone from outside is surrounded.

I gave a quick Scent mark on my door as I entered and turned on a dim light. Love sat on the bed and started talking again while I started my workout routine.

Love left his scent and it was peaceful in the darkness.

The training was tough and not repetitive. Each day was something different that tested our Endurance, Agility and Strength. Fighting was repeated though, we either learned and dodged or get knocked down repeatedly. I noticed that my body would move of it’s own accord at times and the first time shocked me and I was floored.

Soon it turned into a rhythm and it was almost like dancing as we fought.

The poles were a bitch to deal with. Getting jabbed or hit with it was a different experience, the knife fights were bloody. The Medic’s often checked us during this training session.

At the end of the day we were tested on our progress and depending how we did we could eat or go without. Most of it relied on how silent you were at moving from one space to the next. There were many obstacles in our way and we had to get there quickly. Our feet were not allowed to leave the ground for more then ten seconds and it had to be done twice. Across as a wolf and Return as a human.

Walking back to my room on an empty stomach I wondered if I’ll be good enough. If I’ll be the wolf everyone wants me to be, if I’m meant to be who they thought I should. Those thoughts soon washed away at the small sniff of Love. It almost felt the week washed away in an instant.

“Silver Moon, how was your week?” Love asked in his soft voice I told him small things that didn’t reveal my training or what I had learned. I had discovered that Love despises all kinds of harm to another. He also didn’t like to see violence so keeping those to myself and making sure he doesn’t see me fight made me feel conscious of him.

Justice warned me to not get comfortable with Love but with him being the only link to outside how can I not? If it’s just for a few moments, just a small whiff of pine. Actually what was his scent? I never really noticed his scent under the ones I longed for.
