The clearing and memories (Anilec) Part 2

The clearing and memories (Anilec) Part 2

Oct 08, 2022

The wolf seemed somehow familiar to me, but I didn't know where from. I had never seen a wolf in the wild. From a tree nearby, a large black raven flew onto the wolf's shoulder and whispered something in his ear.  Although I was sitting on top of the tree, I could hear what the raven said to the wolf: "Do you recognize the smell Jack? I think our little ones have found their way back home. Can you believe that?" The raven sounded pretty happy, but I didn't know what he meant.  The wolf, who according to the raven was called Jack, looked suspiciously in our direction, turned back to the forest and said: "Come out, you have nothing to fear. OUR PUPPIES AND CHICKS HAVE RETURNED HOME!" He shouted the last sentence so loudly that a few ravens flew from the trees and it almost sounded like a howl.  However, the ravens did not fly up in fear, but to see what Jack had found. They flew directly towards us and then circled us. A few landed briefly next to Jael and then flew away again. The raven sitting on Jack's shoulder also flew up after a while and landed directly in front of Jael and looked deep into her eyes. Jael, who gradually became uncomfortable, lowered his head a little and murmured very quietly: "Corvo. I thought... you... but... why? Who are? I don't remember, but I do..." Pride shone in the eyes of the raven.  He tilted his head and said, "Oh my dear Jael, how tall you and your sister have become. I missed you so much. I almost came to get you, but you also had to learn how to deal with and live as human beings. I am so glad that salvation has come back, and how you have made yourselves.  Koraki will be so glad you're back here. She misses her chicks so much. And what will your siblings say when they see you?" He spread his wings and gently placed them around Jael and Arika, then he looked at me and said, "Oh Anilec you grew up that way too.  Jack is waiting for you downstairs, go and greet your Alpha." I looked him in the eye for a while and then flew down. I landed in front of Jack and again this bluish light surrounded me. I grew a little bigger, my wings became front legs and the feathers turned into snow-white fur. I didn't know what to do, so I bowed insecurely to Jack.  Jack started laughing, touched my shoulder with his snout and asked me, "Anilec don't you recognize me? It's me, Jack!" I looked at him insecurely and asked, "Sorry, I don't know who they are. But how do they and this Corvo know our names?" Jack looked me in the eye.  I noticed that I had seen these silver eyes somewhere before, but the memory was blurred and ancient. Suddenly I saw a pair of silver eyes, a young puppy jumped up and down in front of me. He began to say, "Tell me what's your name? I'm Jack! Dad said you come from a human house. Is that true? Do you want to play? I want to play! Come on, I'll show you a great place to play in this cave!" He ran away and came back to me when he noticed that I was not following him. He pushed me from behind and tried to push me further into the cave. Finally, I gave in and followed him. He led me down a not very steep slope, squeezed through a small crevice in the cave wall and then up a narrow path. We came to a larger part of the cave. In this room it was very warm and from the other side some light came through a curtain of water. There were nests all over the room and there were small stones in the nests. We meandered between the nests and I was startled when one of the small stones moved.  When I took a closer look, I noticed that these were not stones at all, but raven chicks. I continued to run after Jack and we arrived at the other end of the room. Here lay a single white chick in a nest. I recognized it immediately. Jael looked at me sleepily and when she recognized me she jumped up so fast that she almost did a somersault. She got up again and shook herself. Then she jumped out of the nest and climbed on my shoulder. Jack looked at me and Jael briefly, mumbling something that sounded like, "The more the fun..." and then ran on. We squeezed through a gap on the right side of the cave, walked down a narrower corridor and turned left and right two or three times. When Jack finally stopped we were in a smaller round cave. In the ceiling of the cave there were many small holes that let sunlight shine in so that the cave was illuminated. Suddenly, together with Jael, now a little older, I was on my shoulder, on a big rock. Next to us, a stream stream streamed over the rock and fell over the edge just a few steps away from us. Jack appeared next to me. He also seemed older. Down by the lake stood an old wolf. He looked similar to Jack, but his fur was a bit grayer. In front of him stood his pack. A single brown wolf broke away from the pack and stood in front of the gray wolf. The brown one looked angry and wild. He turned to the pack and said in a loud voice, "I will no longer tolerate us harboring these monsters!" A small fiery red, tigered cat appeared between Jack and me. It was Arika. She looked young. She was probably around two years old. She sat down and looked down at the wolves. I heard the brown wolf speak again: "You know it as well as I do that these things are more human than animal! You will get older and learn to deal with fire and weapons! They will become our greatest and most dangerous enemies, for they will be able to deceive us. They're probably deceiving us right now! Pretend they are some of us and suddenly they snap. I am in favour of banishing them from the forest!" The black-grey wolf took a step forward and spoke in a strong voice: "Good that you said this Bear. You have heard what he said about Anilec, Jael and Arika, now say himself: Since her opinion or not. But before you say this, think again. Do we just want to abandon our puppies and chicks that we ingested some time ago in the forest and let them starve or be killed by predators and other enemies? I, for one, stick to the small ones. They belong to my pack. Who else?" He resigned and left Bear. One by one, the wolves and ravens from the next trees went over to the black-gray wolf and stood behind him. Bear looked at everyone angrily and growled, "You blind idiots! Do you really not see that you are protecting the enemy!" The black-gray wolf came to Bear again and said calmly but in a somewhat sad voice: "Bear, I forgive you that everything if you calm down now and go to apologize to Jael, Anilec and Arika."  Suddenly Bear attacked and there was an angry brawl. I wanted to go down and help the grey wolf, but I couldn't move. Jack jumped from the rock straight into the lake and when he appeared he howled, "Father!"  Jack swam ashore and stormed towards the fighting wolves. Bear hurled the old wolf against a rock and while he jumped at the black-gray wolf for the last blow, Jack intercepted him halfway in the middle of the air and hurled Bear away. Two female wolves dragged the grey wolf behind the waterfall while Jack and Bear fought with each other. Jack threw Bear two or three meters away from him and the two started circling around him. Bear looked at Jack in disgust and said, "Boy, you're a good fighter and an even better hunter. I don't want to fight you... Give up and I'll spare you. Your father and these monsters will be banished, that's for sure. But you... Yes. We can use someone like you in this pack." Jack growled and then said, "I'd rather die than live in a pack led by you. My loyalty belongs entirely to my father!" They went at each other again, scratching, biting and tearing out each other's fur. After a few minutes, Jack stood triumphantly on Bear. Everyone waited anxiously for the last blow, which would never come. I saw again the black wolf with the silver eyes. I took a step back, but didn't turn my eyes away from him.  When I found my voice again, I asked, "You... are you the Jack???" Pride shone in his eyes when I recognized him. I couldn't believe it. I was back home. Not in a village or in a city, not in a house or other building, not even with people. No. My home was here in this forest, in this clearing and with this pack. I felt safe for the first time in a long time. I was sure. I was with my family. I leaned forward and pressed my head into Jack's chest. He smelled of lake and pines. The little pine lake that Jack and I had once found while playing and which only we two Jael, Arika and Vanessa knew.
