Vee
Ever since Vee was young, he knew that no one loved him. Love became a foreign word when he noticed that everyone wanted something from him.
It started with his parents.
He thought they loved him, but when he turned eight and his little brother was born, he noticed that his parents only gave him attention due to his achievements. He was a genius that everybody praised, and his parents loved the attention. So, when they were together, they acted like loving parents to him. And Vee soaked it up like a drowning man finally receiving oxygen.
But reality crashed in once Yan came around, showing Vee the difference between real and fake love.
Half of his heart died, and he changed.
Then, during his teenage years, his heart turned to dust.
Everyone wanted to be his friend. He had looks, status, and money. People wished to please him because Vee had it all. And they wanted his high standing. So, what is the best way of getting it? It was by becoming his friend or lover.
It took many hits to his heart to realize that no one wanted to be his real friend or lover. They all talked behind his back, used him, and gave zero care to him. Even his lovers told him they never loved him and had someone on the side.
After so many hits, Vee concluded that closing his heart and messing around with people was the best solution. And if they all wanted to use him, shouldn't he give them what they wished?
Vee entered his adult years being flirtatious, cold, and a player.
He slept with anyone interested, not caring if they were in a relationship or not because life taught him that he was something to be used for chances and pleasure.
But deep down, sometimes Vee wished that his life could be different and that he, too, could experience what it is like to love and be loved. Although, he knows a day like that will never come.
The door slamming caused Vee to wake up with a groan. He rubbed his eyes, slowly opening them as he turned his head toward the door.
"Vee, did you sleep here again last night? Do you know that sleeping on the bench is not healthy? Especially when you have a nice condo far from here." A person started, opening a locker in the backroom before slamming it close on purpose.
"Stop slamming everything, Mark," Vee commented, sitting up as he stretched his body. There were multiple popping sounds as his body felt sore from sleeping on a small bench all night.
Mark turned around, holding a small bag in his hand as he crossed his arms. "Did you become a homewrecker again and decide to sleep here to avoid getting your ass beat?"
"Shut up," Vee rolled his eyes while popping his neck, "I would not get my ass beat. You know damn well it would be me winning the fight by a landslide."
"So, is that a yes or no?"
"Mark, why are you here? You know the bar is closed in the morning." Vee changed the subject.
He has not played homewrecker in a while, so he found no reason to answer Mark's annoying question. Honestly, everything about Mark is annoying because the man is beyond nosy.
The only reason Vee lets Mark stick around while he pushes everyone away is that Mark is honest and upfront about what he wants.
Mark picked his bag up, waving it, "I left my bag obviously, Mr. Owner-who-plays-the-bartender-to-fuck-people."
Vee pulled out his phone, rolling his eyes at Mark while checking his messages and notifications. "You got what you needed, so leave."
"Hmm," Mark glanced around, acting like he was thinking before saying, "nope." Then he sat down next to Vee, "Now, tell me, how was your find tonight?"
Sighing, Vee wanted to hit Mark. This was another annoying thing about this man; he always wanted to know about everyone Vee slept with, and Mark wanted details too.
"No one, now leave me alone."
"What!" Mark gasped while clenching his chest, "The famous sex beast slept with no one last night. You must be lying."
"And you must want to get hit." Vee quickly clicked his teeth.
"No need to get cheeky. Lia texted me that you went back here with someone last night."
"Well, why don't you tell Lia she's fired if she keeps spying on me for you."
Mark grabbed Vee's shoulder, shaking it, "Ugh, be serious, Vee. Why are you acting so mean? You always tell me about your conquest."
Vee pried Mark's hands off him, "That is because you always bother me. And there is nothing to tell. I did take someone back here, but nothing happened. Happy?"
Then, Vee stood up, walking away.
"I don't believe you!" Mark yelled after him, sounding like he was pouting due to Vee not telling him anything.
Vee kept on walking, staring at his phone as he started to think of last night. Nothing did happen since the man left before they could get to the good part. But, even from the kisses and small touches, Vee could still feel the heat from last night.
The man was sexy and felt incredible against him. Vee would love to sleep with him. The moans and heat of the man's skin are something he cannot forget until he fully gets to taste the man. Ah, if only the man left him his name or number.
Maybe, he could get lucky and see him again.
Ring! Ring!
Vee glanced down at his phone, seeing that his aunt was calling him. He gritted his teeth, not wanting to answer. The only time his aunt calls him is when she needs something. But, heaven forbid he calls her for a favor.
Remember, Vee is only excellent for use.
Taking a deep breath, Vee answered the phone, "Yes?"
"Took you long enough," his aunt complained before continuing, "one of the teachers at my university got into an accident and will be out for four months; I need you to take over their class. You will be fine; it is a calculus class."
His aunt is the academic dean, and his uncle is the university president of one of the top schools in the country: Oaks Hill University.
They were one of the statuses that people tried to obtain from him. Too bad his aunt and uncle couldn't care less for him if he was not doing something for them.
"There is no one who could take it? Aren't there TAs?" Vee asked. He did not want to spend his time playing a professor. But, even after asking these questions and wanting to say no, he knew he would follow his aunt's will.
That is what he is best for: following people's wills.
"Vee, this isn't a choice. My sister said how you are doing nothing but wasting your time at a bar. You will be here tomorrow morning, taking over the class." His aunt's voice held no arguments.
Vee sucked his teeth, "Fine." He hung up without saying goodbye, squeezing his phone tightly in his hand.
He stopped in his tracks, staring at the sky, watching the birds fly, wishing he could become one.
The following morning came as Vee sat behind a desk, reading the syllabus in his hand as a few students started walking into the class.
He pushed against the reading glasses on his face with a sigh before glancing at his watch, seeing that there were still a few minutes before class started.
Vee barely looked up, even when he heard a few students whispering, wondering who he was and why he was sitting at the desk where their professor usually sat.
He ignored them, tapping against the desk with his free hand while reading the syllabus. When it was time for class to start, and it sounded like more and more students were entering, Vee finally glanced up.
He scanned the students before he stopped at a certain one. He internally smirked as he started to feel energetic about teaching.
Maybe, these next four months won't be terrible.
