“Isn’t there…a rule against eating food or drink offered by being of Glimmerstand?” I asked, he laughed at that
“There used to be, but nobody really uses that rule anymore” he shrugged softly as he nodded through the doorway.
Pocket dimension: should have seen that coming. I stepped through the doorway into a rather open circular room; two bronze staircases framed the room leading upwards, but there were twin wide matching bronze archways to the sides and a narrower one forward, the entire wall above and around the front door was glass that had a slight frosted edge to the panes, pale cream colored stone flooring and sleek plastered walls that faded to a stark cobalt tone along the base and the ceiling edge. A very geometric frosted glass and bronze chandelier hung overhead from the domed ceiling that was painted with a fractal like pattern that breeched the edge of the dome as it made its way down the walls forming almost faux-pillars of almost honeycomb like texturing. Hanging plants and various other elements were fastened to the wall and about the room. A central dark table was under the chandelier, a glowing clear/frosted glass sphere floating above it that looked vaguely globe-like, but not the globe of Earth I was used to; the continents were different shapes and there was really only four or so continents, but all four seemed to share a boarder with this central one. There were Sylvan runes on the frosted glass glowing slightly blue.
“Is this…Glimmerstand?” I asked as I stepped over to the globe, he nodded
“Can you read or speak Sylvan?” he asked, it’s the major language of the fey people and most likely the major language here.
“Not fluent, but fairly well” I shrugged
“Any other languages?”
“Well, I’m a hellkin so we’re born speaking infernal fluently, but I’m also fluent in Elvish and…abyssal”
“Why do you speak abyssal?”
“It was a throw-away class at Paradise Academy, I needed a humanities credit and all the other languages counted, abyssal uses the infernal alphabet so I thought it would be the easiest to learn.”
“I see” he said with a laugh of understanding, “Still, odd that you chose that, but I get it. Not a lot of people speak that tongue.”
“Well, devils speak infernal, demons speak abyssal…people like to compare me to both so why not speak both”
“How semi-fluent would you say you are in Sylvan?” he asked, I fluttered my lips a little
“I took a few years, so I’d say probably a bit more than I think I am, but…nowhere close to full fluency”
“Alright”
“Do you think I’ll need some tutoring?”
“Possibly, it is a very, very widely spoken language here, but…we all are taught to speak a few mortal languages for people who wander in, English is one of the most spoken languages of your world, so we do speak that, but everyone does speak two-three others”
“Well, English is the language of business”
“That it is” he said with a nod, “I’ll make sure that the guestroom is set up for you” he added as he glanced upwards before he went up one of them.
I shifted around a little before looking around the room a little then stepped off through the archway to the right, it opened into a smaller room, almost shaped like a quartered circle with the right wall being curved with large windows looking out over the city, there was a dark blue lounge central to the windows, flanking the archway were these deep inset bookshelves that were full to the brim, past the shelves to my left was a large cobblestone fireplace, two L shaped over-stuffed maroon leather couches were in front of it, set around a circular dark wood coffee table and atop a massive rug, there were rugs everywhere overlaid and not a single one matching the others. The solid walls were a dark stone and the floor was dark wood, artwork was on the walls and random plants were about the room along with various pieces of artwork that weren’t on the wall. Past the fireplace were more shelves then another archway. I walked back into the foyer before wandering through the left archway which opened into a half-reading room, half-sunroom; the curved wall was glass and the right wall was slightly deeper than the living room; occupied by a heavy dark wood cabinetry flaked by inset shelves, a curved dark purple couch even with the glass curved wall covered in pillows and throws, the cabinets however were filled with tea and tea-sets. Framing the couch were overfilled bean-bag chairs, pillows, cushions and a thin, long table down the middle of the room and an archway was at the other end of the room.
Through the next archway opened into…a small library; pentagonal in shape with two archways; the second being opposite of the one I just walked through, the angled walls faced outwards and were glass, but all the others were covered in floor to ceiling books, two of the walls had large alcoves; one had a day-bed in it and the other had a door in it that opened into a bathroom. The same dark wood flooring, but dark wood walls matching the selves, masses of warm tones, reds, golds and bronze, warm light from the fixtures, big couches and pieces and a desk at the end with a green shaded lamp. I walked through the opposite archway which led into the room with the middle archway from the foyer; the kitchen: it was a very long room if you entered from the foyer arch, from inner wall to outer being far larger than the other rooms; the entire outer wall was glass, but the entire back half was glass looking out over the city, the walls adorned with dark wood cabinets with dark stone countertops, a circular matching island with a few green barstools at it and an ornate bronze sink built into it, all the appliances were tinted bronze or brass and heavily magical looking, small chandeliers went down the middle of the room and the glass section at the end was occupied by a circular table of dark wood set for four with green velvet chairs, a fixture over it and atop a large circular blue rug, the walls covered in herb and spice plants.
I stepped back into the foyer as I heard a footstep and soon Calico started walking down the stairs, cape like piece fluttering out behind him as he did so, not using the railing, just a hand softly rested on the wall.
“Alright, the room is all set up and ready. If you want to take a shower or something, go right ahead, I’ll get dinner started if you’re hungry too”
“Why…why are you so quick to help someone like me?” I asked, he laughed quietly from midway down the stairs.
“How could I not?” he asked with a slight sideways tilt to his head as he looked towards me. “It’s how I was raised, to help everyone and anyone in any possibly way I can. It has been a long time sense I’ve had a guest before though, so…if any of my hospitality is not top-notch I do apologize for that.”
