The Warmth of a Heart

Market Day Part 2

Market Day Part 2

Oct 13, 2022

After the class was over I decided to make some friends when lunch came around. No matter what. I had finally reached the time to stuff my face. I was famished. The fruit the older lady was peddling sounded like it would have been a good idea. Too late now. The lunch today was broccoli cheddar soup with a piece of baguette for dipping. They also had a few other offerings but none of them appealed to me as much. The lunch lady spooned the soup into the bowl. It smelled good for a school lunch. Now it was time for me to find a seat. Hopefully someone would let me sit with them. "Hey. Do you mind if I sit with you?" I said to one of the girls. She had one long dark braid of black hair. It was the color of ash. "Yeah. Go ahead."

I sat and the other girls seemed to barely notice me. I inserted myself into the conversation. "How's your first day?" "Oh, I'm a sophomore You must be a freshman." I shouldn't of assumed. "Oh, I didn't know. Sorry." "No need to apologize." The other girl chimed in. She seemed rather bubbly and I liked that. "Well, we can show you around if you want? Where are your classes at?" "Oh, I have classed in room 205 and 307. I assumed they would be on the third and second floor." "Yeah, you're right." And then they fell into an awkward silence. "Well, I'm new around the neighborhood. You could show me all the best places." I said hopeful for a response. The bubbly one quickly spoke up.

"That sounds like fun. We could show you all our favorite places for dessert There's this place for crepes I love. They are to die for. But not literally." She laughed. "Yeah, I guess you could come." The one that barely spoke since I sat down said this. It made me feel uncertain about my chance of becoming friends. I hoped she ended up being a great friend. "I'm June." That was the name of the ash hair colored student. She didn't seem to like me much either. I was probably reading into things too much as usual.
