“Wake up!
Wake up, or you will surely die! Wake up, my child! You need to go back; you
need to get help.”
“But the red-eyed sorcerer will find us.”
“That man has gone. Now leave and find help. Don’t die here.”
My body burned as magic churned within me. Forcing my eyes open, I pushed myself off the floor. Jonah and Marcia were on the ground of our safe house. Jonah was bleeding badly, and I could tell from one glance that he suffered the worst. His body was riddled with curses, most likely from the weapons of those snake-like monsters. I picked Jonah up and threw him over my shoulder. Something popped loudly.
Marcia sat on the floor in shock. Her eyes darted back and forth as she held tightly to her chest. Pain coursed through my body as I pulled her off the floor, leading her out of the safe house.
With Marcia in tow, I ran down the mountain. The sun peeked over the horizon as dawn covered the forest. That village becomes closer with each step. Rage rises in my chest as I rush towards it.
