She looked at me amazed. "You're a witch. How wonderful. That explains how good you were at picking out the best fruit." I wanted to tell her that me being a witch had nothing to with it, but her grandson had appeared right behind her. "Sorry, I'm late. I hope you didn't do any heavy lifting. Remember how your back is." She reassured him she was fine and let him know that I had helped. "Thanks." He said and continued. "My name is Jeremy." Veronica."
We shook hands. His felt calloused and rough. That must've been how a farmer's hands felt. "I have to go. But, I'll see you guys later." "Oh, wonderful." The sweet old lady chirped.
This time I made it to homeroom on time. I had received a text on my way here asking if I wanted to grab lunch with them later on. In this school you could eat lunch off campus after the first day. A girl behind me tapped my shoulder. She had silver rimmed spectacles. "Hey, name is Carol. What's yours?" "Veronica. I'm new to this town." "Oh. cool! It must be hard trying to meet new people once you move to a unfamiliar town. I once moved somewhere for a little bit for school and I was so nervous." She really understood how I felt. It was nice. "I'm trying to make new friends at school. It's been tough. "Well, I'd like to be your friend. You seem pretty cool." "Thanks. You seem to be as well." She smiled from ear to ear. We chatted on and on until it was time to switch classrooms and go to our first lecture.
Lunch came around and I walked down to where we supposed to eat at. It was a cute café that had a colorful sign displaying the words open on it. I made my way inside and looked for them. I didn't see them so I took a spot by the window. A friendly waitress came around and asked what I would want. "I'll just have a chocolate milkshake for now." She smiled and left the menu with me. The clock ticked by and lunch was almost over. I finished up the milkshake and gave her a nice tip for all the trouble. Walking out I began to feel a little annoyed, Maybe they forgot or something. I walked back to campus and I heard them giggling not too far away from the front gate. "Did she really think we would hang out with her?" June said. I couldn't believe what I was hearing and it struck a chord with me.
