Before long, Daimian was running home, ducking once again into a nearby alleyway to change his clothes to walk back into the apartment without his suit on. When he got home, he was greeted by his sister and mother, who were waiting by the door for him. "I'm home, guys," he said as he passed by the two. "Where were you," Faith turned back to ask Daimian, "I was worried sick!" "Yeah, both of us were, kid," Alex started to walk a little behind her brother, who stopped in the doorway through the kitchen. "Spill it." "Sorry, my friend got caught up in the heavy traffic. That's why we had to leave a bit early," Daimian told the two, turning around to face them. "Interesting day, really. A lot of action in downtown earlier." He started to turn away again, rubbing his eyes as he walked back to his room. "And sorry again, but I'm pretty tired. It's been a long ass day and I just wanna sleep." As he stepped through the apartment, he could feel his sister's skeptical eyes follow him until he shut the door. Sighing, Daimian took off his backpack and pulled out his suit, stuffing it into the black trunk under his bed once again. "That was a close one," he said, looking at the powered-off ceiling light above him. "There's got to be a better way of doing this." After shoving the trunk back under his bed and setting his backpack's strap on the doorknob, he rubbed his eyes and laid on his bed without even taking his shoes off. He set his phone in the top drawer of the end table after turning it off. Tossing and turning, no way of relaxing properly. Even after kicking off his shoes and rolling off his socks, he couldn't sit still, noticing it wasn't even dark outside. He thought a bit about the days before, how there was a figure that was always there. There at the café, there during the attack, almost everywhere Obscurity would go. He couldn't shake the feeling that he was missing something. He grabbed a pencil and notebook from the drawer, turning onto his stomach to write properly. "Killy," Daimian said to himself, "that was his name. Big metal gloves, jet black outfit." He thought he knew him from somewhere, but couldn't be sure, but wrote notes on the whole day before falling asleep with it in his arms. "Bullshit," Alex said from the living room looking back at the bedroom. She stood up with her hand clasping her head in a mix of frustration and worry. "I know that this comic club thing is absolute bullshit." "Alex," Faith looked up at her daughter from her chair. "Why don't you believe him?" "Mom, there's not a comic club at our school," Alex looked down at her as she put her hand down. "This little menace has been doing something behind our backs and he's being dishonest about it. Do you really think he's staying after school for a comic club almost all of this week?'" Faith closed the book she was reading and set it on her lap. "Alex, could you sit down for a minute," she asked, seeing her daughter pause before laying back on the couch, feet propped up on the opposite arm. "Wasn't it Dan who told you not to worry about your brother for a bit?" "Well yeah, bu-" "And do you know who told me that information?" "...me?" "Well, if you heard him correctly, then he's probably right," Faith leaned closer to Alex. "Daimian's going through a lot right now, and if Dan thinks the best thing for him is to be left alone, then I agree. You have bigger things to worry about yourself. I mean, you're graduating not too long from now, in less than two months if I’m not mistaken, then you'll be in the real world. That's what you really need to worry about." Alex looked up at her mother from the armrest. "B- Mom, I just-" She sat up, crossing her legs and tilting her head at the floor. "What if he's just hurting himself with whatever he's doing?" "Well, have you noticed him acting weird in school?" "N- not really, I guess." "And has he been acting oddly around the house?" "I mean, not more than usual, I suppose." "Alex," Faith stood up from her chair and looked down at her daughter, "you're an amazing woman, and these past few years, you've been able to help me raise your younger brother from a fractured home. Even though this might sound a bit selfish for you, you're a grown woman and you have to focus on your own future. I think that's what Dan was trying to tell you, alongside wanting to let Daimian blow off some steam until they both get better. So please, respect their wishes, Alex." Faith walked out off to use the bathroom. Alex sat alone on the couch, looking down at the floor with her hands clasped together before unfolding her legs and pushing her face back with her hands causing her to flomp deeper into the couch. Letting out a low groan, she pulled her hands down, making her eyelids move lower until they snapped back, before she set her hands on her thighs, looking up at the ceiling. After a while, she pulled her head down and chuckled to herself a little bit, looking at her reflection through the blank television screen. "Shit."
