"Daniel Leonardo, you have some visitors here to see you today." "Ho ho, it's about damn time." Dan started shifting in his cot as Faith, Alex and Daimian filed into the little, white medical room that was holding him. "Gad, it feels like forever since I've seen your all's faces in person." "Yeah, the feeling's the same here, Dan," Faith waved at him as the three gathered around him. "How've you been holding up so far?" "Oh, I've been feelin' great." Dan smiled at the crowd before tilting his head to the side. "But enough about me, how have ya'll been doing this past, what, month or two now? What is it now, May? June?" "See, that blow knocked his system out of it's socket," Alex teased, causing Dan to chuckle a bit. "We've been doing alright, mostly missing you though. HOWEVER," she pulled out her phone to pull up the video of the graduation party, "we did have a visitor at the building." "Oh shit," Dan tried to move himself to get a look closer at the small screen in front of him, "when was that, kiddo?" Alex sunk her teeth in with her lip. "So you know that party I was talking about-" "-for graduation." Dan nodded and looked down at the phone. "Yeah, I remember that now. Shame to hear that, sounded like it would be a good night otherwise." "Eh, it was actually a bit of a bore really. Nothing happened other than, well, this." "Apparently there was an 'explosion' there, too," Daimian chimed in next to Alex, who sighed as she heard her brother’s words. "So there was another explosion at a party, huh," Dan asked curiously, looking down and stroking his chin with his free left arm. “That’s gotta be a record for this city. So many explosions this year alone.” "That's what Alex's been saying since it happened." "And it DID happen," Alex said, pushing her hand onto Daimian's mouth. "Just, not like an explosion like at the café. More of an 'explosion of fisticuffs' or something causing a big bad guy to fly out of the window of Chell’s place." "So it was a fight that happened," Dan asked a bit confused. "Yeah, pretty much." "And the attacker flew out the window?" "That's what I saw." "Good God," Dan sunk back into the cot as the family looked down at him. "I swear, this town gets crazier and crazier each passing year. There ain't a single drop of normal here in this city anymore." "Yeah, everything's been out of wack for a few years now." Faith patted his shoulder. "-And yet we still live here somehow," Alex shrugged as her gaze drifted into the air. Dan sat back up as Faith let go of his shoulder. "Well, the doctors say that I'm on route for a faster recovery than they expected. Sayin' just about a week or so and I should be able to walk around again." Daimian perked up as he heard what was said. "That's great, Dan!" "I'm glad you've gotten this much better in just a few months," Faith gave Dan a joyous smile before getting up to talk to one of the doctors behind by the main door. "Eh, those burns weren't too bad." Dan rubbed the back of his head and sat back down in the cot. “Got me a bit toasty is all.” Daimian threw his hands in the air behind him. "Weren't too bad? You were right up against the explosion, man! You were practically on fire!" "Yeah, I feel like that would kill a normal man," Alex looked at her brother as he put his hands down. "But I guess you came back from hell, huh Dan?" "Wouldn't be the first time," Dan chuckled again, closing his eyes a bit as he did. "Well, we should probably get going now," Faith said as she motioned back towards the pale door. The siblings looked back before she points down at Dan. "We gotta let Dan get rest at some point, right kids?" "Okay," Daimian nodded, trudging back to her mother after waving goodbye to Dan. When he reached the door frame, he looked back at Alex still at the cot, sitting next to the old man. It seemed as though they were talking quietly to each other. Daimian tilted his head in longing for the two of them, a mix of confusion and sadness in his face. After a few minutes of meek ramblings between the two, Dan rubbed Alex's long, brunette hair before he smiled and motioned her to leave. Picking herself up, Alex stepped over to the door, brushing away small drops of water from her cheeks. Seeing this, Daimian quickly turned the corner and set his foot against the wall as his sister come into the bleak lights of the hospital. With little less than a word, Alex turned to her brother with a distressed look on her face before turning it into a cheap smile. Letting out a sigh, the siblings walked down the long halls, constantly looking back at Dan's room before it was gone from their sight. Gripping his sister's trembling hands, Daimian turned his head and looked into Alex's tired eyes. "He'll be okay, sis." "I know," Alex sighed, eyeing the floor before looking back up at the door and then her brother. "I know he says he's been in this stuff before, but actually seeing it..." "It's sad." Daimian put his hands in his pockets and stared back at the room. "So," Alex looked back at the floor, "how did it feel when this happened to you?" Daimian stopped for a moment before looking at his older sister. "Honestly, I don't know. I made a far quicker recovery and a lot younger than Dan is. But I know if I was still in that situation, things would be a lot different." He clapped his hands together and paused. "I think what we need is some fro-yo. What do you say?" Alex grinned a little bit, looking at the end of the hallway where she saw Faith waiting for the two of them before turning back to her brother. "Sounds nice."
