Nino Man looked to his left, then to his right, then back at the
detonator still in his hand. "What the hell, they should have gone off
by now." Nino Man shook the detonator violently by his ear for a moment.
"What's up with this thing, is it-" he paused as he noticed a slight
scuffing sound coming from inside. Looking at the bottom, he took off a
little clip to look into a small compartment where the batteries would
be stored. To his surprise, he found small pebbles instead. "Looking for something, Nino," Obscurity asked, holding up a small triple A battery in his hand with an eager wave. "H- What?!"
"Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't notice sooner." Obscurity gave a
cocky smile under his mask as he put the battery in a little pouch
attached to his pale belt. "GIVE THAT BACK!!!" Nino Man lunged at Obscurity, who swiftly dodged to his left. “YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU’RE DOING!”
“I think it’s really you who has no idea what they’re doing, big guy.”
Obscurity pushed Nino Man onto the iron pavilion a bit below them. “I
swear, you just make up random stuff to say on the fly, I’m kind of
impressed.” Nino Man used a bit of his boot’s propulsion to launch
himself back up to his enemy’s level, throwing his fists in a fleeting
fit of rage. “Only thing is, I’m just slightly better at telling lies.”
“You’re ruining this like you’ve ruined everything else!” Nino Man
threw another punch that landed on his opponent’s face, a slight crunch
coming from his nose. “I’ll give you one last chance to give it to me
peacefully before I BREAK THE REST OF YOUR GOD DAMN BONES!” "Woah
now, if you want it," Obscurity said as he took out a cylindrical rock
similar to the battery from his pouch, throwing it out into the dark
alleyway beside to them, "then go get it." Thinking he saw the
battery in the dim light of the fireworks, Nino Man rushed to the edge
of the building to see it fall into a trash bin down below. Without
thinking, he tripped himself on the edge, causing him to flip and chip
off one of his horns from his helmet. After falling down the alley two
stories, he landed in the trash bin, trying to search for the battery.
Staggering up when he hears the police arrive near the alley, he tried
to run away as they started to approach closer with flashlights and
tasers. As he crawled to the edge to watch, Obscurity heard Nino
Man let out his last words before disappearing into the busy Fourth of
July street past the café,. "OBSCURITYYYYYyyyyyyy-" "It's a
long fall from fame, buddy," Obscurity weakly chuckled as he set his
hands on the edge of the building before grabbing his chest in pain. He
sighed as he sat at the edge of the roof, watching the array of
fireworks going off over the mountains surrounding the otherwise dim
landscape. He tilted his head to the side, squinting to his right to
face deeper into downtown. "What am I doing here?" Obscurity
looked at the building behind him and remembered just where he was.
Stepping to the roof of the building behind, he realized again that he
was on the roof of the café. Thinking to himself, he shuffled blindly
around the edge of the roof's borders before hitting his hands on a
wooden box. He opened it and started to take off his suit in the cloak
of the darkness, trading his attire for a normal shirt and shorts that
he had prepared the day before. "Thanks for the box, Dan," he said,
patting the box's lid down. "Now all there's left to do is getting down
from here without anyone noticing..."
