The Attic.
“Was there a break in?” Susan asked
hastily, shuddering.
“Is this a kidnapping, did someone do this deliberately?” Amy glanced around.
She tightened her grip on Florica’s shoulders.
“How could they not!?” Exclaimed Logan. “It’s a bloody axe!”
“Bloody?” asked Florica in a frightened voice.
“It’s just a phrase, don’t worry,” said Eric, giving Logan a side look.
“Let’s get out of here,” Susan said.
They all rushed to the basement door, their footsteps thudding through the room.
When they got out, they ran to the living room.
It was big and spacious. Nothing was on, and there was no sound but the beat of their hearts and the pant of their breath.
“What do we do!?” Susan said franticly.
“Where should we go!?” Amy said immediately after.
“Who could’ve done that!?” said Eric.
“We need to hide!” said Logan, drawing their attention. “Someone obviously did that on purpose, and we don’t know why. We need to hide,” he said, tugging on his black leather jacket tighter.
They were all silent. The floorboards creaked when someone shifted. The shivers down their spines were icy cold.
“Where too?” Amy whispered, barely daring to break the silence. It didn’t like to be broken.
“Whoever did that could be anywhere,” Logan replied, “Somewhere no one can get easily.”
“The attic?” said Florica in a small voice.
They all suddenly turned, they had almost forgotten about her.
“You must be so scared,” Amy said, hugging her close, “Let’s go to the attic, the ladder is closed, so nobody could be in there already.”
They quickly began to move, swiftly moving through the halls as quietly as possible until they came to the end of the hall.
Eric pulled the string hanging from the ceiling.
“Amy, Florica, you two first,” he said, nudging them to the ladder.
They quickly climbed to the top and waited. Any second the person who cut the power could find them. The thought made them all shudder, panic seeping into their bones.
When they all climbed up, Logan pulled the latter up and closed the hatch.
“Help me move this box, Logan,” Eric said, pushing against a huge, heavy box beside the hatch to rest on top of it.
They all sat still after, in the dark, chilling room. There was no heat, but that of the others around. They all had fear instilled in their hearts. They sat in silence as old dolls peered at them, and dust surrounded their vision, the flashlight only making the darkness seem darker.
“Now,” whispered Eric, “onto the other questions. Who could’ve done that, and why?”
“I have a few ideas, now were here,” said Amy, still clutching Florica. “How do we know it’s not a stupid prank of Logan’s?”
“Of course! Seriously, what have I ever done to you?” Logan exclaimed annoyed.
“Why are you wearing your normal clothes then?” Amy retorted.
They all seemed to notice that now. Logan was in a black shirt and leather jacket, jeans, and his dark hair slightly shaded his eyes.
“I didn’t do it!” he said rather roughly.
“Look, I don’t think he did it, okay?” Eric said. “He was in my room remember?”
“Of course, you don’t, but he woke you up, didn’t he? Who’s to say you didn’t do it? Or both of you did, trying to get a laugh!?” Susan whispered back as loud as she dared.
“Hey! That’s my brother! Eric wouldn’t have done that. Besides, mom and dad would have killed him when they got back, anyways,” Amy said, glaring at Susan.
“So now your on their side!?” Susan said, glaring back at her.
“Who’s to say you didn’t do it?” said Eric harshly. “You’re always seeking attention, who knows how far you’ll go.”
“Why would I have done it!?” Susan almost shrieked in anger. “Florica, who do you think did it?”
“I don’t know,” said Florica, glancing at each of them with small, frightened eyes.
“Don’t worry Florica, you’re safe, just stay away from him,” Amy said, pulling her away from Logan.
“Well, what about you, then? All mighty Amy, who says you didn’t do it?” Logan whisper shouted.
“Me,” Eric replied roughly.
Florica suddenly stood up. She turned around and started walking from the group.
“Oh, don’t worry Florica, just stay away from Logan, you’ll be alright,” Amy said, standing to walk after her.
“Or Florica, stay away from your ‘can-do-no bad’ sister, maybe she just wants to scare us for some fun from her boring life!” Logan said, standing as well.
“How dare you!?” said Amy whipping around. “There is no reason I would’ve done it! I’m innocent! Hear me? Innocent!”
“And why should we believe that?” Logan replied.
“We all know you did it!” Susan said, standing up after, too.
“Maybe you think so!” Eric said, standing up himself.
“Florica! Don’t listen to him-”
“No, Florica, stay away from her! How are you friends with her Amy?”
“How are you friends with him?” Amy replied, pointing to Logan.
“Florica!” Eric called, rolling his eyes and growling.
He whipped the flashlight fiercely about the room.
They all gasped.
“What is that!?” Logan shouted, backing up.
They all took several paces back. Trying to get away, blindly stumbling.
They couldn’t stand the sight, but they couldn’t look away from the flashlight’s beam.
