Ashford: A Town Infested By Zombies

Ashford: A Town Infested By Zombies

Oct 22, 2022

The town of Ashford was absolutely ravaged with zombies. Thousands of the were around the town, which had more or become less become a desolate wasteland with basically no one alive and rotten buildings. Arthur had deployed his army at quite a distance from the town and the kept moving slowly down its hill. Because of this no one at the town knew they were there, even when they were close by. Arthur was still close and they still didn't notice the army. At that point Norman yelled `What are you waiting for? Begin the attack!' Arthur just stayed put however, and before long the zombie army finally noticed them.
'They've noticed us, there goes our advantage of surprise!` shouted one of the knights.
`Shit, what have I done?' Arthur muttered. He was obviously panicking, though he looked as if he were trying to control himself. Later on he gazed upon the enemy who were moving ever closer forward. Arthur then order his archers forward, they moved forward from the main infantry line and started shooting at the zombies. However then some necromancers appeared, and started casting fireball spells at them, of which starting killing the archers. More and more of them died, Arthur was panicking even more, though through calming down he shouted:
`Archers! Start firing at necromancers! They're the ones controlling the zombies! Without them they'll be helpless!'  As soon as a necromancer was shot the zombies started wandering around aimlessly. However as the necromancers got shot the ones that were left retreated deeper into the town, leaving the zombies alone without a leader. Arthur later shouted: `Cavalry! Lets charge forward!'
Once he did that the column of zombies was being slaughtered.. This was only a small part of the zombie army though, and more of them were stationed in the town centre. Arthur decided to use the this moment of calm to rest his troops, and to go over his plans.
`All units! Try your best to capture the necromancers when you can!'
`What? Why can't we just kill them?' `We do that and they'll kill us!' various soldiers shouted.
“We need to know who they're working for, and why they attacked the town, If they're causing too much trouble then just kill them anyway!' The army went quiet.
` Well done, Arthur, I think we can all go along with that.' said Norman in an almost sarcastic tone.
The necromancers had retreated to the town centre of where there was an illustrious castle. Arthur and his army followed them, and once there, Arthur noticed a cart full of statues, ornaments and paintings. It was just outside the castle. Arthur began speaking to Norman.
`I think I know why this lot attacked Ashford.'
'Why's that?'
`I'll tell you later.'
`Good boy, let's just focus on wrapping this up.'
The town centre had been cleared of zombies, but there were still forces remaining inside the town's castle `This is it Arthur, this is why you've been sent here, you have to storm that castle!' Arthur said nothing and mumbled to himself `Just who's in charge of this army anyway?'

Nevertheless, he dismounted his horse. The Royal Knights and a garrison of infantry followed him into the castle, he ordered the rest of his troops to block the entrance of his castle. He went in slowly, staying alert for any ambushes, though the door was unlocked and he walked straight in. When he got inside the castle he was clearly in shock.  All the paintings, all the statues, the chandelier, the throne and anything of value had been stripped of the castle. The hall itself was completely empty. It was also eerily quiet and there weren't any enemies in sight. Arthur was panicking a lot and still moved very slowly. There were some light footsteps and breathing noises above him.  `
`All units! Back against the entrance! It's a trap!'  He then moved forward and drew his sword. `Show yourselves, you evil arseholes and surrender to us!'  The necromancers were waiting for them upstairs in a platform above the main entrance, they all came down from the stairs frustrated and, they made a lunge forward at him. As soon as they did that though Arthur charged back at them and they were quickly slaughtered. The rest of them who didn't charge put their hands up to surrender. Arthur grabbed one of them and threw him against a wall
`Where is your leader?!' he shouted, pointing his sword firmly to his throat.
`He's... up on the... top floor, where the bedroom is!’ Arthur glared at him, pointing the sword towards his throat.
'Do you think he's telling the truth?' `Norman just shook his head.. `Take these necromancers prisoners and remove them from the castle'
`Yes Sir!'
Arthur then left the necromancer out of his grasp and instead of going upstairs he went down to the dungeon of the castle and ordered his troops to follow him. When he was down in the dungeon there were many reanimated skeletons ready to attack, though Arthur and his soldiers defeated them without any real troubles. There were no prisoners in the dungeon, in fact Arthur hadn't found anyone alive other than the necromancers in the whole town yet. Awaiting him was an old man dressed in a black robe with a red interior. Arthur immediately pointed his sword towards him.
`Leader of the necromancers! Surrender and you'll be spared!'
`No! Die, you vicious little rodent!' The necromancer attacked Arthur with a powerful blast spell which knocked him and everyone behind him down to the floor. Arthur managed to get up however and began to duel with him. The necromancer in question brandished an evil looking sword with a skull on it's hilt. Arthur drove forward and ruthlessly swiped him with his sword. Arthur was getting really worked up at this point and was just hammering him. Eventually Arthur knocked the sword right out his hands and then kicked him to the ground.
Arthur stepped over him and ordered his troops to restrain him while pointing his sword at him nervously. A group of soldiers arrived and wrapped chains around him tightly. Arthur then began interrogating him.
`Are you the leader of the necromancers?'
‘Yes, fool! Isn't it obvious with my superb powers and vast intelligence that I am the leader of these sorcerers?’ Arthur just cringed and knocked him back onto the floor.
`Oh yes! You're so powerful and clever that I kicked your fossilesd arse! And it wasn't that hard either! You're an idiot, you know that? And who are you calling a “vicious rodent?” killing all these innocent people just to raid the castle? Now that's just pure evil.'
Arthur went back up to the main hall with the captured necromancer leader escorted behind them, he also took his sword with him. “It seems we have captured the leader of the necromancers, so we've won this battle, however this castle needs to be searched for any remaining necromancers and possible survivors” he proclaimed. His troops did just that. After roughly half an hour, they had searched the whole castle and found no other enemy forces. So for all of that Arthur had won the battle. He informed a messenger to send a message to his father that he had won, though also stating that there were no survivors and why he thought the town was attacked to begin with.

Ok, this is a hidden gem! I hope there's more because Arthur just rocked and the action is so easy to understand. Great job, Kori! :)
