The long hallway led through several other hallways that then interconnected towards the dining hall with a plain white painted wall with what looked to be several plain paintings of the Burton family's predecessors that were all men. She stopped a few times to take a glance at them and poked fun at their stereotypical appearance.
The same long white beard about neck length, and those monocles on either the left or right eye. Add in the crappy half-smile, with a little bit of teeth visible that looked uneven and slightly yellow --- disgusting.
Why did they look so identical to one another? Down to the same placement of the wrinkles under the eyes.
Not to mention, they all wore the same boring outfit of blue and gold cotton, with a similar line of gold along the shoulders. They were all seated on a well-built wooden chair, and held a crafted wooden cane with the Burton family crest on the right side.
The dining hall held a much more decorated feel to it, with the same royal colors plastered upon its wall. Meanwhile, the tapestry looked new, as if it had been recently replaced.
The middle of the room seemed more cluttered with the long wooden table of oak that had been recently polished with that slight glimmer reflecting off the crystal chandelier up above. There were several armchairs that were made of several layers of velveteen that were evenly spaced around the table. The tabletop had a beautiful white chiffon table cloth with white porcelain plates on top that been set earlier this morning. The windows were opened and the tapestry had been pulled back to allow for a good amount of sunlight to enter and a gentle breeze to pass through.
“Master.” The servants had straightened themselves up in a line as if they were awaiting her orders. She turned towards them then took a look to her left and to the right to see if there was anyone else present, but it was just her and them. “Your meal shall be out shortly.” they all said in unison as they placed a hand upon their chest and bowed.
Leticia felt their gaze uncomfortable with each bite she took of the meal that had been presented onto the table for her. A good amount of beef in heavy gravy on the first plate, and some vegetables on another in a lighter sauce. A few plates of fruit were placed towards the end of the table, and Leticia would pick up a few grapes and place them onto her plate. It was not as grand as the meals she had originally been used to, but it was adequate enough.
“Is it not to your liking?”
Leticia placed her fork onto the table. “No, it's good enough.” With a few more mouthfuls, she put all her utensils down when she had eaten just enough to satisfy her stomach.
How did Fredrick handle all the stares from his servants during his meals?
It made her feel like she had indigestion, and she held it in.
“Would you like to review your schedule for today?” One of the servants who had a clean-cut appearance with a plain grey suit and some lighter wear for his bottom half had stepped forward with now his hands out towards her. He held what looked to be at most a few pieces of paper, as he took each step cautiously till, he was just far enough away to hand them to her. She gladly took them from his hands and he stepped away with his head down.
Leticia flipped through the pages and noticed a majority of the schedule consisted of financial paperwork, and a check up on the Burton knights. The last part of the schedule consisted of “tea” and Leticia was sure Fredrick rarely drank tea.
“Am I having tea with someone?” She had asked.
“You will be spending some time with Lady Natalia. She had already scheduled her visit for today.” He had replied, with his monotone voice.
Natalia?
Who was that?
She didn’t' recall there being a Natalia among the ladies in the aristocracy. Perhaps, she must be of new blood?
“Do you wish to not meet with her?” he asked slightly concerned, but Leticia thought it would be best to keep with what Fredrick had planned and fulfil her duties in his stead.
“No, I will meet up with her. Have the refreshments prepared along with small light snacks before her arrival.” Leticia instructed and he gave a quick nod to her instructions to pass it along to the kitchen staff.
"Thank you, Albert."
