Walked Amongst Dragons

FOUR- An Unexpected Guest

FOUR- An Unexpected Guest

Nov 16, 2022

“What is that noise?” an eye opened beneath a mound of dirt, before it shifted itself to the left and then threw off a large amount of it over towards an adjacent pond.

“Watch what you are throwing...” a voice had chimed in adjacent from him, where he had thrown a good amount of dirt that had landed into the nearby body of water.

“Mizu.” The jagged mouth spoke up, before their body began to shift forward, and the scales of red and brown glimmered with the overbearing sun above them. His head carried several aged wrinkles, and eyes green with wisdom. “Do you not hear that sound?”

The pond had shifted, and the water began to part with two large wings of blue, gliding through the open water, before sprouting out into the open. Opened up from one end to the other, he flapped his mighty wings upwards to the sky, before gliding downwards to the ground.

“Kasai, are you imagining things again?” Mizu questioned. His body shook off a good amount of water, before he flapped his wings once to get rid of any excess water.

A blueish gold dragon with a slight hint of green in the underbelly looked up to Kasai with his slightly lowered snout and upper jaw ajar. He seemed to be slightly irritated, before Kasai moved ahead, and took off upwards. He would follow closely behind.

“That way.” Kasai motioned, before he took off and Mizu followed.

A clearing of what looked to be of a greenfield with several large trees seemed to be ahead of them. Kasai lowered himself to hear the squealing and screeching of what was no doubt a human cry.

“I hear it.” Mizu whispered, with his head to the wind, as he too pushed away a few trees with his tail to look through the surrounding area.

“An infant.” Mizu looked down towards a bundle of fabric who was wriggling around.

“Why was it put here?” Kasai questioned, before he put his snout up against the bundle and two hands grabbed the ends of his snout, and he flinched.

“What should we do?” Mizu asked, as he eyed Kasai who in turn was not sure of what to do either. It was not rare for humans to leave behind their unwanted children or infants in the forest. Mori was usually the one to handle these types of issues by relocating the child or infant to another village and Kasai decided that would be best.

Kasai and Mizu had tried multiple times to return the infant back to the human population, but every time they did so, the infant would be placed back into the forest.

“We cannot raise the child.” Mizu sternly stated, but Kasai seemed to have become fond with this little bundle between his two large claws.

“Do you want to let it die then?” He asked, with his eyes lowered while it kept its gaze towards the little one.

“You know the rules the elders set. If they find out, they will banish us.” Mizu was worried, as he began to pace back and forth. He too couldn’t allow the innocent thing to die, as he had become fond of the little bundle as well.
