The next day I had off from school. I texted Carol to see if she had any plans. It turns out she didn’t and we met up by a different cafe. It was on the side closer to the magic academy. Patrons who were also witches got a discount when they bought something there. “I’m going to get this!” She was pointing at a strawberry cake. I went for the chocolate fudge cake. We also picked out some sandwiches for a meal. I got an egg salad sandwich, while she went for a ham and cheese. We took our seats and sat our trays down on the table. “This looks so good!” I wholeheartedly agreed. One bite of the egg salad sandwich and I was in heaven. The feeling must’ve been mutual because she was chomping down on hers as well. “I’m glad they put mustard on it. It makes it taste even better.” “Yeah, they did a good job with my sandwich as well.”
We then started to fall into a pleasant conversation. I told her how I walk to school and about how nice the people are in the market. That I really enjoy seeing the elderly lady and her grandson. “How old is he?” Her eyes sparkled. “He’s around our age.” “Okay, is he cute?” “Yeah. In his own sorta way.” His skin was tanned from being out in the sun for long hours. He also had thick dark brown hair that was wavy. I responded with a simple “okay.” “I mean it. If he’s cute you could introduce me to him.” “His name is Thomas. I think he’s really sweet.” We both heartedly laughed. Talking about boys turned out to be interestingly enjoyable. This was so much fun.
After we finished eating I decided to show her the market. It wasn’t in a magic filled area and it was a bit of a distance from the school. “I’m surprised you walk this far. My legs would get tired.” It wasn’t that bad. At least I was gaining muscle. We finally neared the stall where Alma was selling her wares. “Hey!” She noticed me and waved back. This old lady was always so cheerful. “My grandson should be back any minute now.” She winked at me. She may have gotten the wrong impression of me, but not of Carol. “I’m so excited to meet him! Veronica said he was really nice.” That was true, he was very nice. I noticed him coming up from behind the stall unloading the boxes of fresh produce. His arms flexing as he picked up one after another. I was surprised at how muscular he was. I didn’t seem to notice before, but I could spot Carol almost drooling. I held in a laugh, I didn’t want to make her feel embarrassed. Alma noticed her expression with ease. “I guess you think my grandson is handsome.” She said teasingly. Her face turned pink. “Uh, I was just wondering if needed help that’s all. Let’s go help him.” Carol grabbed my arm and tugged me along to the pickup truck.
