The doctor rushed Jonah into surgery. The nurse escorted Marcia and me to another room. A nurse wrapped gauze around my chest wound. Marcia stared blankly into the distance. I approached her and took a look at her lifeline. I successfully took her wound, but she still has a curse. I focused on the little black blob. I move the curse carefully away from her lifeline and up her throat. She coughed up bile and fell to the bed. If Master were here, Marcia would not have passed out just now.
“Hey kid,” the old man who helped me here stumbled towards me. “What are you?”
“What do you mean?”
“There is a gaping hole where a human’s heart should be, yet you’re still alive. How is that possible.”
“It’s a little strange. Ever since I was young, wounds like this couldn’t kill me. Master, she always told me that I might have dragon heritage. Maybe my mother was a dragon.”
“She is a smart lady.” The old man paused, “Has your Master ever talked about your eyes changing?”
“Yes, she told me to be careful since they turn red.”
The old man flinched, “yes, you had a hard time because of that. Your eyes didn’t just turn red, but they resembled a lizard. Just like the dragons.”
“As I said, my mother must have had some dragon in the family at some point.”
“Kid, when you disappeared from the village. I went to your hut to find you. Your mother is no human, but she’s not dragon either.”
“Okay…”
“Have you ever heard of the soothsayer?”
“Yeah, he went around talking about the future. Master met him once.”
“Years before your mother showed up in this village. A man told us the son of a witch - a boy with red eyes – would destroy the world. This man said to us that one day a boy with the eyes of a dragon would appear to us villagers. You are the boy with dragon eyes. He told us that you would save our village from the man with red eyes.
This prophecy terrified us, and many others in the Northern Nation believed we were all in trouble. To the point where we outcasted creatures even if they didn’t have red eyes. Because of our fear, we turned you and your mother away. Because we thought she was the witch, and you were the red-eyed sorcerer that the soothsayer mentioned.”
“Red eyes?” My entire body shook as I remembered those blood-filled eyes. “That boy is supposed to destroy the world?”
“You- you’ve met him? The Red-Eyed Sorcerer?”
“He’s why Marcia, Jonah, and I are like this. Our Master, we left her to fight him. She’s in danger.”
Hermon placed his hand on my shoulder, “She might be fine. After all, that girl seemed to have gotten away with no problems.”
“He almost killed her. This wound-“ I pointed to my chest, “This was hers.”
Hermon tilted his head and squinted his eyes at me. “What?”
“I took her wound with magic.”
“How did you learn magic.” Hermon shifted closer to me and started whispering. “It has been banned for citizens to use.”
“Gruff?”
