I watched as Dad lifted my Mom bridal style out the door. I followed behind them and we made our way to the hospital. After a few x-rays, they told us that Mom had a fractured ankle, and just a slight bump on her head. They said she was lucky, if she landed any differently she could've broken her neck or worse. While we were at the hospital, I was worried about Mom, but I couldn't help but keep an eye on Lenni2 the whole time. I was watching her like a hawk until we got home some hours later. Dad helped Mom settle on the couch, and gave her some painkillers for her ankle. "Are you comfortable?" Dad asks as he sits next to her. "Yes, thank you." She replies as he plants a kiss on her forehead. Lenni2 was in the kitchen grabbing cups for drinks. I watched her from afar, I didn't like how everything went down. Why didn't she help Mom right away when she fell? Lenni2 gave Mom and Dad their cups and remained standing. "I am going to call it a night okay?" she says. "Are you sure sprout? We were going to watch a movie. Mystery, your favorite!" Dad exclaims. "Yeah I am sure, I want you and Mom to spend some time together and whatever old couples do." She laughed. Mom and Dad smirked at each other and kissed. Lenni2 made a vomiting noise and they all laughed. As jealous as I was I couldn't help but smile a bit. Lenni2 goes to kiss Mom and Dad goodnight then asks, "Does this mean you will work from home for a while?" Dad also waits for a response eagerly from her. "Yeah, looks that way. Maybe it's for the best, I do want to spend more time with you." Lenni2 and Mom exchange smiles as Lenni2 walks up the stairs and shouts, "Goodnight!"
"Love you sprout!" Dad shouted back. I was about to leave to go back to the garden when my Mom spoke. "Lenni has been acting differently lately." "More than you think," I thought. Dad nods. "Yeah, but that's a good thing though, isn't it? We wanted her to conquer her anxiety, she wanted that just as badly." "I know but, we can't risk anything happening to her," Mom says sternly. Dad kisses Mom's hand. "I know my love, the world is too dangerous and we don't want anything happening to her." Mom starts to tear up a bit. I did as well, they care and love me so much, when I wondered why they refused to let me go out, I never thought of how it would affect them. I wish I could hold them in my arms and tell them that no matter what, I would always be thankful for the life they gave me and that taking those steps is scary but it's something we get to do together. "It's just, back then when someone took our child before, there wasn't anything we could do. I refuse to let anything like that happen ever again. My heart can't take it" Mom sobs. "Come again?" I questioned. "That won't happen, I swear it. With her anxiety and the safety protocols we set in place nothing like that can ever happen again." My dad gave her a tight hug as he played a movie. "What. The. WHAT?" I shouted. What did that mean? What were they talking about? Wait, so they don't set the protocols because of my terrible anxiety? I pondered for a bit but my thoughts were scrambling together. The only questions I had left were, what happened, and what were they talking about? I walked out into the garden without realizing it and ran into Manfred. "Hello, Miss Lenni. How are you?" he smiles. I hug Manfred. "I am not sure anymore."
"Manfred, everything is so confusing. Today started so well, but then Mom falls down the stairs, Lenni2 is acting suspicious and when we come back from the hospital I find out why my parents are not as open and honest as I thought!" I felt my anxiety rising then Manfred says, "Doesn't sound too bad." Manfred pats me on the shoulder and walks towards my gardenias. "Manfred as my only friend, I need help. Is there anything I can do to get my body back?" I pleaded as I walked next to him. He shakes his head no. "I do not know, I apologize, Miss Lenni, I wish there was something I could do for you" I fall backward and groan. "What happened today doesn't sit well with me." I thought aloud. "Lenni2 is acting weird, I thought she just wanted a second chance at life. I know she said Mom fainted, and I didn't see her do anything, but what if today wasn't an accident? To top it all off, I find out my parents and I aren't as open with each other as I thought we were. They have ulterior motives. that they kept from me." I blink away my tears and let out a heavy sigh. "Sometimes," Manfred started. "The best way to solve any problem is to try." I sit up. "I did try to get my body back, I failed." I clench my fists. "Then find a new solution." He laughs. "If you want to take back your life nothing is stopping you from trying. If you want to conquer your anxiety and make friends nothing is stopping you." He offers his hand to help me up and I take it. "But I know the struggle." He continues. "I had anxiety too, at least I think I did. Either that or I simply am a weird socially awkward old man. Miss Lenni, what you want is no crime, and what you have to do to get it is improbable but not impossible. You know the questions Miss Lenni, go find those answers." Manfred gently places lavender in my hand and walks away. I smelled the lavender and placed it in my hair. Manfred was more helpful than he knows and I am proud to call him my only- no, my first friend of many to come. I have to think of ways to get the answers I need, no more asking questions without any action. I started pacing back and forth. At the moment, I can't get my body back but there could be a loophole. I will have to circle back to it later, what I can do right now though, is figure out what my parents were talking about. Deep in my thought, a bright purple flash snapped me back to reality.
"What was that?" I scanned around the garden. It was dark out and the only light I saw, was coming from the living room's television. I decided to go in and see if that's what it was. Mom and Dad were asleep on the couch together, and the T.V was playing an old film that was in black and white. "Smooth moves Dad." I chuckled. Mom loves 1900 romance movies. I started to hear a lot of movement upstairs, with faint sounds of chatter. I fly up the stairs and my room was lit a light purple. I try to go through the wall but something blocked me from entering. "I knew it!" I shouted. I heard everything go silent as I heard footsteps approach the door. I felt a heavy weight come over me as adrenaline rushed through my veins. Instinctively, I flew out of the house and back into the garden as fast as I could. Lenni2 heard me? If so, how? I thought living people couldn't see or hear ghosts. Lenni2 even explained it to me herself the transformation was completed she couldn't hear or see me. The weirdest part was why I couldn't enter my room. I need to try again and figure out what's going on in there. I flew up to my window and tried to enter through the window, but to my unfortunate luck, I couldn't get through. I tried entering through my parent's bedroom wall, and the bathroom wall, I tried entering from the floor of my room, but I couldn't get in. I go back outside to my window. What is going on? How is Lenni2 doing this? I had to find out. I pondered and thought the roof was worth a shot. I fly 10 feet above the roof and flew as fast as I can downwards praying that I could get in. If I was being stopped I would break the barrier. Unfortunately, it worked, I flew straight through the roof and face palmed to the floor of my room. "Ow." I groaned. At least I am in. I pick myself up and rubbed my forehead as I scanned the room. I was facing my bedroom door and it was open. I rolled my eyes and face-palmed myself which made my head throb. "I can still get injured, goodie." I sighed. On my window, there was a piece of paper with writing on it, I couldn't make out what it was saying because it was written in a language I had never seen before. I saw them on each of the walls and floor, except for the roof. Lenni2 must have placed them there but she probably couldn't reach the roof. I heard footsteps approaching and I hid in the closet. It was Lenni2 and she was holding a Mirror. She placed it on the desk, closed the door, and lit a candle. After a few minutes of silence, she started talking and I heard another voice talking with her. I needed to hear who she was talking to, but I had to get closer to do that. With what happened earlier in mind, I wasn't sure if that was going to be a big mistake but, I decided to do it anyways.
