A/N:
How ‘r you doing, seamen? There’s a lot to celebrate these days, so many holidays around the world, each from different continents! This time’s for Asia and one of our most different drawings for the beautiful and biggest Hindu festival… HAPPY DIWALI!🕯️
Diwali or Dipawali gets its name from the row (avail) of clay lamps (deepa) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. With different inner meanings for India’s diverse religions, normally implies the victory of a god over a demon; good over evil. It last bout five days: the day one, people clean their homes and shops to help bring good fortune; day two is for decorating their homes with clay lamps and creating patterns called rangoli on the floor using coloured powders or sand; day three –the main day of the festival–, the families gather together for praying, followed by feasts and fireworks; the day four is the first day of the new year when relatives and friends visit each other with gifts and best wishes for the season; finally, the day five, brothers visit their married sisters who welcome them with love and a lavish meal.
In this drawing, we tried to portray that entire magical atmosphere from our boys’ hand –never better said!–, and then this funny, warm, and completely different idea came up, since Aurel loves to draw hands, Chris loves to play with the light and we’re both in love with henna patterns 🥰 Just for you to know; our Hindu Universe, settled in 16th Century’s Mughal Empire, is one of our favourites as well as one of the first to pop-up, and it also has some of our favourite drawings… two of them still unpublished and one implying another Hindu festivity~.
So now, tell us! Which holidays are currently being celebrated in your country? Do you celebrate Diwali?
