Big Dreams, Bigger Powers

Encounters (Part 2)

Encounters (Part 2)

Nov 02, 2022

"Ok this spot looks good," she says triumphantly.

"Of course it is, this is the biggest, oldest tree in this park and the greatest spot ever to enjoy a picnic," I say enthusiastically.

"I know I know you really love this tree and the shade it provides," she says confidently.

"Who wouldn't," I say arrogantly as if everyone agrees with my statement.

"Ok help me set up, I'll get the food from the car, and you lay out the blanket" she instructs, almost sounding like a mum.

"ok cool" I reply.

I lay down the soft checkered picnic blanket just in time, as I see Sasha approaching me with the basket in hand filled with all the food.

"Ok cool, so I'm gonna read my book first and I'm just guessing here but I bet you're gonna go swing," she says, knowing exactly that she has guessed correctly.

"Of course I am, it's fun and relaxing" I reply, excited to go swing.

The wind breezes, lightly ruffling my long curly hair along with the rays of sunlight showing off my hazel highlights, as I swing higher each time, I honestly love swings, it feels like I'm flying safely and I have full control, I feel absolutely peaceful.

I look over to Sasha and it seems like she's enjoying her book a lot and by the looks of it, won't be swinging today but she'll definitely be in the mood for a bit of 'soccer '.

"Hey Sasha, when do you think you'll stop reading for a bit?" I yell out to her from the swings, too lazy to actually get up and ask her like a normal person would, but who cares, there's like nobody here.

"Soon I promise" she yells back, looking as if she's reached a section in her book that she has to read.

I finally decide to get off the swings and walk up to Sasha, meeting her at the most perfect picnic spot in this park.

"Can I take the last strawberry or do you wanna go half-half?" I ask just in case she actually still wanted it.

"It's fine you can take it," she says with her eyes still focused on the pages of the book.

"Thanks," I say, as I plop down on the comfy picnic blanket and take a bite of the last juicy strawberry, enjoying every bit of sweetness escaping into my mouth as if it's the last thing on earth.

"Ok I'm done with reading for today, so you wanna go play some 'soccer ' " she suggests, right after I finished the strawberry.

"Definitely" I reply, excited to play our version of 'soccer', knowing that we've never played the actual game correctly in our entire lives.

We've been playing 'soccer' for a while now and it's getting a bit late, but that wasn't the issue.

"You've got to be kidding me," I say out loud, clearly sounding annoyed.

"Why, what's it, what happened," Sasha asks, sounding concerned.

"No nothing happened but look who's here," I say calmly, looking over to where I had been so she can follow my gaze, without me having to point so they don't see us or just by not making it obvious that we have seen them.

Sasha turns her point of view in the same direction as where I'm looking and the realization hits her.

"Wow, what's he doing here, I thought guys just stayed indoors and played video games all day," she says flabbergasted.

"Same," I say having thought the exact same thing.

(Hayden pov)

"Oh no," I hear Luke mutter under his breath.

"What, why oh no what's wrong?" I ask him, confused as to why he looks shocked.

"Just look there," he says.

I turn my head in the direction Luke is looking and meet eyes directly with the exact same girl I bumped into the other day at our school's match, I could basically feel my heart stop instantly as I look away from her and back at Luke.

"Shit, why didn't you just tell me, now she knows we saw them and probably thinks I'm stalking her and we locked eyes!!!" I say, sounding way too panicked than I'd like to sound.

"Dude relax, it's ok," he says calmly.

"Sure it's 'ok' " I say sarcastically.

"Hey see, it looks like they were playing a game of soccer or something similar to it?" he says, looking in the direction of the girls, with a confused expression on his face.

"You're right, hmm, they just started playing again, maybe they don't even care that we're here," I say, feeling relieved.

"See I told you it's ok," he says reassuring me.

(Anastasia pov)

"Sasha we can continue playing but if they come closer or to us then we're leaving," I say, not in the mood for them today, especially since I'm still annoyed by the incident at the match yesterday.

"Ok cool, I don't have a problem with that, plus we were gonna leave in an hour anyway, so it's good we're not leaving early just because of them," she says, sounding happy that we spent the day outside and had fun before anyone could ruin it.

"Exactly," I say agreeing with her, honestly glad that we did have a great day and didn't have to worry about avoiding certain people.

We continued playing and actually started to have fun again, totally forgetting that they were here.

"So what were we gonna do at the park anyways," I ask Luke, knowing that we didn't think this far.

"I don't really know, coming to the park was as far as I thought, I didn't think of what we'd do," he says, as we both look dumb standing doing exactly nothing.

"Well, we probably would've played on the swings for a bit and then went home because clearly, we forgot something," I say, not surprised that we actually forgot something or the fact that we didn't think of what we'd actually do at the park.

"You're probably right because neither of us even thought to bring the ball to play with," he says, sounding unfazed.

"Well we can't just stand here we look dodge and if we go on the swings where are we gonna look, because then it's definitely gonna seem like we're stalkers," I say, pointing out the obvious, especially since we've been standing and talking in one spot the entire time.

"You wanna ask them if we could join in on their game?" he asks, actually sounding like he meant it.

"Hahaha, you honestly think they're gonna let us join in" I reply, flabbergasted by his question.

Then he just starts walking towards where they are, so I guess I got my answer from that and started walking with him.

We finally reached them and I made sure I wasn't gonna talk first, mainly because it wasn't my idea.

"Hey, we saw you guys playing 'soccer' and wanted to know if we could join?" Luke says politely.

"Sorry, but we were actually about to leave," I tell the jerk's friend, actually feeling kinda sorry for him because he seems nice.

"aha, you're just scared that we're gonna win against you guys if we join," the jerk himself says, with a smirk across his face.

Sasha and I both laugh in unison, at his remark.

"Please, we're not falling for that, we know we're better, maybe we don't wanna embarrass you guys," I say confidently.

"Oh really, then prove it," the jerk says, thinking he can trick us by challenging us to a game.

"Sorry but we actually gotta go, so maybe next time?" Sasha says sweetly.

"If there's a next time," I say adding to Sashas' comment.

Right after my reply Sasha and I walk away from them and towards our spot and begin packing up our belongings.

"You sure we didn't leave anything," I ask Sasha, looking again to make sure we haven't left anything behind.

"Yip" she responds happily.

"Ok cool let's go," I say, once we have everything.

"Damn, she really isn't like the girls that fawn all over you at school" Luke comments, sounding impressed.

"I know, also not all the girls fawn over me, just certain ones," I say, correcting his comment.

"Well what are we still doing here, there's nothing for us to do right now except swing and it's getting cloudy which possibly means rain, so let's head back home and play more video games" he suggests, probably right about the rain as well.

"Ok cool," I say, seeing as it seems it might rain and there's nothing much for us to do at the park right now.
