The Disappearing Friend
The Disappearing Friend
Nov 09, 2022
The months pass as quickly as they come it is now December, the hoildays are looming, and so are finals for this year.
I try ask Danny for some help especially with math, but for the last few days she has been nowhere in sight. I know she came to school but as soon as homeroom is over she disappears. We have four classes together including lunch.
I run into Ren during lunch, "Hey Ren have you seen Danny anywhere?"
He turns around with a food tray in his hand. "No, I have not."
"Alright, thanks." I reply as I go to sit at a different table.
"Wait a minute Kippy." Ren asks.
"Yes?" I reply turing around.
"I lied. I have seen her... I mean Danny..She just asked me to keep it a secret." Ren blurted out.
We move to an empty lunch table.
"What the heck? Why?" "Is she mad at me?" I ask.
"Not to my knowledge." Ren replies shaking his head.
"Was she acting weird in anyway?" I ask as I feel myself panic.
"Kippy. Calm. Down." Ren says he reaches to grab my hand.
I pull away before he could grab it.
"We have could just ask her." Ren says leaning back a bit.
"Ask her? Really? I don't even know where she is!" I blurted it out loud enough that the tables around us stopped talking.
"Kippy, again. Calm. Down. I am backtracking a bit to your last question."
"She was really serious when she told me not to tell you she was in school."
"I don't know nor do I understand why but the way she said it to me sounded as if she was prompted." Ren explained.
"The only time she seems that distance is when her dad is involved." I explain.
"Her father?" Ren asks leaning closer.
"Yeah. I have never met him but he seems... overprotective? Is that the word?" I explain pulling back.
"I need a little more explanation." Ren asks leaning in closer.
"I..will..but..-" I whisper.
"What?" He asks leaning even closer.
"Can you..back up,, a bit..?" "Your I ask as I blush.
"Oh..I'm sorry.." Ren replies as he leans back.
"Its.. okay.." I reply.
"Whenever, her dad called she had to go home."
"No matter what she was doing or where she was." I continue to explain.
"It maybe because she had to be there for her family." Ren replies.
"Maybe but something is not sitting right with me." "Before she would never avoid me but now something is wrong." "You're right should talk to her but the problem is I don't know where her house is."
"How about her phone number?" Ren asks.
"No.. I don't have a cell phone or a landline." I say embarrassed.
"We could always ask your homeroom teacher." Ren replies.
"Let's go. Before the bell rings." I say as I start to eat fast.
I also I meant to put this tidbit in the comments right when began. This story was originally written back near 2008 so that's why there really isn't much refence of smart phones. I mean in chapter 1 I had Danny answer a call but I didn't really say from what kind of phone.
