The Last Coven

Unfolded

Unfolded

Nov 11, 2022

A strange energy like a small lightning bolt came within the book and electrocuted their hands.  The shock was not intense, yet they both felt a bit uneasy after this small event. What they did not know is that this was only the begging.

"What was that? Did you feel it too?" Annes asked.

"Yes, I felt that! But I am one hundred percent sure that this is not normal at all," stated Sasha.

"I think we shall take a break for now and come back later and see what is going on with this book. Do you want to go for a smoke?" asked Aness.

"Sure. I am in need of some fresh air. The energy inside the house is so heavy at this moment." Sasha said while opening the door to the terrace.

The cold air from the outside was giving them chills. Sasha was sitting in a chair taking one puff after another. Meanwhile, Aness was near the terrace railing, staring at a fixed point in space forgetting the reason why she went outside. The bitterness of the cigarettes were slowly bringing them back to their senses, yet both  struggled to understand exactly what happened. It was above anything else they have experienced. A lot of questions popped into their minds.

Once they were back inside, they retook their seats around the table and began to uncover the mysteries of the book. It was pretty difficult for Aness to decipher even the first page.

"What does it say? I can barely understand a few words from there." Sasha asked.

"It says something along the lines of:
'Those who may have the courage to see the death,
They would not fear it, they will embrace its shine
They will choose to see the dark before the light.
       So be it!'" Aness said.

The moment Aness recited those words aloud, a strong vibration came out in the room. Something changed in their bodies. An energy shifted so inexplicable the two couldn't rightly put into words ... they felt... strong, more powerful and in a strange way, refreshed.

"I think we shall stop for today. Strange things are happening and I am not sure if I want to know more for now." Aness said a bit worried.

"That's completely fine, but you will have to stay with me tonight. I don't want to be left alone with this creepy book." Sasha replied.

"That's a deal! Let's order some food and we will have to see what to do ." Aness said while getting up from the sofa.

The night was fast approaching and you could feel from afar the spirits calling to be heard.  It didn't take long for the delivery man to arrive with the food. When the doorbell rang announcing the arrival of their dinner, Aness opened the door with a big smile on her face and said:

"Hello! Thank you for arriving so promptly. We already paid directly to the restaurant, but here is your tip. Have a lovely rest of the afternoon." Aness said pushing a ten-pound note to the man.

" Thank you! You too!" said the man while taking the money and giving the food to Aness.

She quickly took the food and got back inside. Sasha was waiting for her at the table from the kitchen sitting in one of the chairs scrolling through her social media. When she saw Aness coming, she quickly got up from her chair and ran to help her friend with the food. They already could smell a salty marine smell that was tingling their noses. Shasha opened the boxes and put the lobsters and the sea shells on a big silvery platter.  Steam was raising from the food sign that was still hot. The meat was so fresh that they could feel the sweet-fishy taste with every single bite they took. Once they were done eating they cleaned the table and headed upstairs, to the master bedroom for the rest of the afternoon.  The girls were relaxing and enjoying the night drinking some liqueur and having a good talk.

Everything was perfectly normal until a loud bang came from downstairs. The girls immediately heard the noise and their hearts started racing like they were in a running competition. The blood from their veins started to boil and their bodies became stiff. With one move of her hand, Sasha pulled the blanket that was covering her away. She got one leg out of the bed and then the other and placed them on the cold floor. The moment she stood up she felt like her entire body was aching from all the anxiety and tension. Aness remained in the exact same position, unable to think or to make a move. Her mind was blank due to the shock and the idea that someone could have broken into the house.

"Did you hear that?" Aness asked with a trembling voice.

"Yep. I am going downstairs to check." Sasha said, reaching out for the gun that was hidden under the bed.

"Hold on! I am coming with you. I can't leave you alone."  Aness replied while slowly getting out of bed.

After quietly opening the door, they slowly started walking down the stairs. Sasha stood in front of Aness because she knew the house better than anyone else. As they took one step at a time, they noticed a yellow-white light coming from the living room. Sasha had her gun prepared and she was ready to pull the trigger as soon as she saw someone. As they got closer to the living room, they realized that no one had entered the house, yet the book began to glow.

"Now you can't tell me this is what a normal book would do," Shasha said lowering her gun.

"I... Honestly never seen anything like this before." Aness stated in shock.

"Brilliant! Now we have a cursed artifact in the house. Sounds like a normal night to me." Sasha said sarcastically.

"I don't think cursed is the right word." a  strange voice said.

"Did you hear that? Am I going crazy? Who's there?" Sasha asked, preparing to shoot in the direction she thought the voice was coming from.

"Wow, wow! Easy, take it easy! What happened?" Aness asked worried.

"I heard a voice. But now, if I stay a little longer and analyze this, the voice seemed to come from inside my head." Sasha answered.

"Umm... What voice?" Aness asked.

"This voice. Can you hear me too?" the strange voice said.

"I heard it. I heard the voice now! What on earth is this?" Aness replied very scared.

“At least I know I am not going crazy. I think something is trying to communicate with us telepathically. Sasha replied.

"That's correct, but I am afraid that we can't communicate securely in your realm, so please don't mind if I will do this." the strange voice said to both of them.

While the strange voice was speaking, a shadow enveloped the room and began to make the girls slowly lose control over their bodies. It was as if their bones started to melt and they instinctively laid down. Their vision started to get blurry and the words they were hearing started to melt one with the other. Soon they fully lost consciousness. This was the moment when they crossed the line between life and death, the moment when the impossible becomes possible and the surreal becomes reality.
