Emily
I followed behind the high-ranking wolf out of the hospital wing and into the main pack house. The stares were starting to get on my nerves. I didn't know what was worse. The rumors about Theo and me or people glaring at me? Whatever, I've been marked and mated. That's probably what caused the rumors, the fiasco at the ceremony. Apparently, Theo stood in the way of Zyair when he was taking me. People probably think I'm a slut that managed to hook the future Magus and a Lycan prince.
Seriously, can't people mind their own business?
We reached the door to the Alpha's office. The high-ranking wolf knocked on the door. A gruff answered, "Enter."
My guide opened the door and gestured for me to go inside. I did, and what I saw made me gasp. There next to Theodore was Miss Charlotte!
I rushed forward and hugged her. She hugged me back on her stumbling feet. "I missed you!" I squealed.
"I missed you too, sweetie!" she replied, squeezing me tighter.
"Luna, you know them?" the werewolf asked, entering the room.
Wait, Luna?
I looked up at her. "You're the Luna?"
She nodded. A bright smile spread across her face. I knew she was mated to someone in the Night Claws pack, but I didn't know it was the alpha! The Night Claws pack trains the best hunters and trackers. Of all the places, why was I taken here?
My thoughts were interrupted by someone clearing their throat. I broke the hug and looked to see the alpha staring at us. I approached him, placing a hand on the desk and another on my hip. "So, you're the famous wolf that took Charlotte's heart. You treating her, right?" I raised a brow.
Theo came beside me and crossed his arms. "Yeah, are you?" he asked, raising a brow.
I heard Charlotte giggle. I'm pretty sure the high-ranking wolf is most likely the beta. I'm also sure I heard something get smacked. Probably a hand hitting a face. The poor guy thinks Theo and I are scared of the significant lousy Alpha.
The three of us had a stare-down. No one backing down or showing weakness. This would be a battle to the death!
The alpha rose from his seat. Taking a deep breath, he answered, "I take good care of Charlotte. Both outside and inside the bedroom."
"Damien!" Charlotte shrieked.
I didn't have a turn to know she was blushing. Damn, you go, Charlotte!
Theo and I looked at each other and nodded. "He's clear," I affirmed.
"Diddo," Theo complimented.
"Oh, you two!" Charlotte huffed.
Theo and I burst into a fit of laughter. Charlotte was our teacher back at the mansion. She took her time with us and was very patient. We saw her like a second mother and always looked forward to the day she would meet ‘the one’. She's in her late 30s now, and I can tell she's happy.
After calming down, Theo and I explained how we got here. We didn't mention the onyx stone casting the spell, but rather a surge of energy coursed through me, causing the spell to occur. The Alpha and Beta seemed to buy it, but not Charlotte. She knew I was the Magus's heir and gave me a look saying, "We would talk in private."
The news of me being the heir instead of Theo has stayed a secret until my trials are over and I'm given the sacred mark. The very proof of my status. Thankfully, the Alpha agreed to let us stay recuperate from the mishap. The Night Claws pack is large and disguised as a town in the countryside. It would be a long way back home, and we needed to rest before coming up with a return home plan.
Out here? Theo was taken as well because he held on to me. That was obvious, but why here in the countryside? I'll have to figure that out later; I wanted to get some sleep right now. I was so tired.
The Alpha let us stay on the same floor as he and Charlotte. He noticed her worry and thought it would be best. Theo and I opted to share a room, but Charlotte was having none of it. She said there was plenty of room, and we would go out and grab some clothes once we rested.
I was in the lavish guest bedroom a few doors down from the Alpha and Luna suite. The room had a queen-sized bed, a large bathroom, a walk-in closet, and a flat-screen hanging on the wall. Boy, Alphas always have the big bucks, don't they?
I was about to close my eyes for a nap when there was a knock at the door. "Coming!" I shouted, getting up from the bed. I went to the door with bare feet patting against the hardwood floor. I opened the door to reveal Charlotte. I greeted her with a smile and invited her to come in. When she entered, I closed the door behind her.
"So, what's up?" I asked, placing my hands in my pockets.
"Sorry to disturb you, honey, I know you're tired, but I have to know," she said worriedly.
"Know what?"
"Does this have to do with your trials?"
"Yes," I answered. There wasn't any reason to hide it from her. I may as well be honest about this, considering Theo and I landed in her pack territory.
"Do you, by any chance, know what your trial is?" she asked. I could see the hesitation in her eyes. She didn't want to overstep her boundaries or worry me too much. Charlotte's aware of the pressure I'm under from these trials.
"No, I don't," I reply. "Please, don't worry about me. I don't know why my stone took me here, but if there is any danger to you, your mate, Theo, or even your pack, I promise I will protect you all! I swear as the Magus heir."
A soft smile grazed her lips. She moved closer and hugged me, surrounding me with her warmth. "I'm always here if you need me. Alright? Don't think that you have to do everything by yourself. No one can do that. We all need a little help, and I'll provide it. As well as Theo and that hunky mate of yours, or, rather, amore," she grins.
A blush creeps across my cheeks as Charlotte breaks the hug. She giggles. "Get some rest, honey," she opened the door. "We'll get you and Theo some clothes later, alright?"
I nodded, then watched as she closed the door, leaving me to my thoughts.
