“Well, After we got to safety, our first priority was getting Mal patched up. He wasn’t hurt much but Infernal energy is like poison.” says Robin “we went to go see Doc Ardin.”
Agent Wash ruffles through some papers, “that’s the Medicite? Medicine based Mutation. Works out of the Innerstation, correct?”
“Yeah, that’s him.”
__In the depths of the Innerstation__
Docs’ office is out of an old mechanics garage, now sanitary and out-fitted to handle all of the docs’ medical needs.
“Mal! Back so soon? You were in here like two days ago, kid.”
“Yeah, sorry doc, some truly insane stuff went down.”
“The Technoids made a move against you guys, I know.”
“What do you mean? It just happened.”
“They didn’t just hit you guys. It was a coordinated attack. I’ve had people in all day.”
Robin turns to Mal, “go get patched up. I’m going to go make some calls and see if I can track down these guys.”
Mal takes her hand and pulls her close, “one good thing came out of this atleast. I haven’t seen you in, what feels like, years.”
Robin places her hand on his chest, “I know, now go.” she pushes him away and pulls out her phone.
A few hours go by, the Doc patches Mal up, and Robin just got done talking with a few informants.
“What’s the word?” Mal says as he leaves Docs’ office.
“So here is where everything sits. First, roughly eighty percent of both of our crews were wiped out. Which kinda leaves us as the top officials so that’s something. Second, based on the word of some locals, we know where they are set up. A brick factory in Old Town.” Robin lets out a deep sigh.
“Lastly, I called what’s left of my crew and they have agreed to a proposal that I think you should accept.”
“And what’s that?”
“They have agreed to disband the One O’s and reform back together. We all want to get revenge but we cannot do it alone.”
“I think I should go get Doc. you must have hit your head.” Mal says as he looks her head over for damage.
“I’m serious! None of us care about that feud, it was stubborn bullshit held onto by the old leaders who are all dead now. Just…just try. Please.”
“I could never say no to you.” Mal says as he picks up his phone. A few minutes later, “most are reluctantly on board. Those who wouldn’t be, already jumped ship and left town the second they heard everyone was being targeted. Cowards.”
“That’s great! Have them meet at the building in the morning. For the night, we are gonna rest. My place is nearby.” Robin says as she takes Mals’ hand and leads him toward that direction.
They come up to an apartment complex built as if inside a tunnel. They head inside and up the stairs to apartment two hundred twenty six.
Robin helps Mal take off his jacket and pure white leather shoes. She leads him to the second bedroom. “Here you are. The spare bed should be comfy enough for one night.” she begins to turn away when Mal takes her hand and pulls her close.
“You know, with our crews coming back together, there wouldn’t be anything stopping us anymore.” Mal says as he pulls her face close, heart pounding in his ears.
“I know.” she says as she meets his gaze. In a flourish of passion the two kiss, locking together like their breath is the only sustenance that can keep them alive.
As quick as the moment came, Robin forced herself to stop. “Goodnight Mal. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Goodnight Robin.”
