Winding through the streets and out to the rich hills just beyond, the modified limo pulls into the estate of Eric Brandsing.
“Of course it is.” Robin says as she pulls out her phone and informs the crew to meet at this house.
Finishing up the call, “hey Mal, come out here for a moment.” unquestioning, he leaves the car and joins her by the hood. “Whatcha need?”
“I wanna do another spell with you. This one deals with remote viewing. Basically we are going to separate our minds and travel like spirits. With mana, we will be able to see perfectly but it is disorienting.”
“Sounds fun. I’ve always been jealous of you for that, you know. We both have mana/magic and yet, I can’t do any magic. Granted, I’m faster, stronger, cooler. So it’s a fair trade off.”
“I’m pretty sure ‘cool’ isn’t a part of it.” Robin says with a slight giggle.
“Oh I know, I just meant in general.” Mal says with a dumb little grin on his face.
“Uhuh, sure. You ready?” Robin says as she extends her hand to him. “Always.”
They both sit down like before. “This spell works differently. This is tether magic. If anything happens, you should snap back but it requires constant fuel so you will be going in alone. Luckily though, you will still be able to talk and hear me.”
“So you’ll make me a ghost? Are we sure it will even work with me? Tetrans absorb magic.”
“The last spell worked so you must only absorb straight mana and not the effects of magic. Besides, I’m beyond curious what your manifested soul is like.” Robin says as she eyes him up and down.
“Explain yourself.”
“Well, this spell manifests a sort of soul form based on who you are and your mana source. The One O’s perform the spell all the time and we noticed that mana informs the body. So I am dying to know what a Tetran looks like.”
A moment passes and Robins’ eyes begin to glow. Runic symbols begin to appear across Mals’ body. Large circular symbols flash into reality in front of his eyes, back, and hands. Like falling asleep, he drifts out of consciousness before he can even realize it worked. Sitting behind him, back to back, is a transparent but solid version of Mal.
He stands and looks at himself. “Am I supposed to be solid? I thought I was gonna be all ghost like?”
“Pick up that rock there.” she says as she points to a small square shaped rock on the ground.
He bends down and picks it up with ease.
“Huh. you shouldn’t be able to do that. Try to let it pass through your hand.”
After a moment or so, the rock slides through his transparent hand.
“The plan should still work but that is incredible. Your natural ability to absorb mana has made your spirit dense.” Robin says with rare surprised shock.
“Well I am glad that I can still surprise you.” he says with glistening charm. “In I go.”
Slowly making his way to the estate. he comes up to a wall. “This is gonna be weird.” he presses his hand onto the wall and with slight effort, it begins to pass through.
A moment of darkness and cold passes as he emerges on the other side, face to face with a Technoid guard. What seems like a lifetime passes, the guard moves on. “They cannot see me. Thankfully.”
“Good, make sure to get eyes on everyone inside.”
Searching the grounds, the garden, the pool, and fire pit, he sees four guards outside. Entering the house, it is as modern as you can get. “Real fancy in here. I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole thing is a smart house. There are two Technoids standing by two identical Machine men. “I think it is fair to assume that they are able to control them like avatars.”
“Good to know. See if you can find where their bodies are. I am hoping that they need to be in close distance to control them. Hopefully.”
Another four inside but after close inspection, Mal finds a locked room. Placing his hand on it, he begins to place through. Suddenly a red pulse from inside the wall launches Mal out of the house and violently into his body, launching him several feet into the car door.
“What the hell was that?” gaining his composure, he looks to Robin who is dumbfounded and in shock.
Snapping to, Mal runs over to her and tries shaking her to her senses. “Hey! Snap out of it! Are you okay?”
“I’m fine! Stop shaking me!”
Letting go and sitting in front of her, “what happened? What’s going on?”
“That was a spell of protection. The room you tried to enter was warded.”
“So they have a magic user on their side.”
“You don’t get it, Mal. spells have signatures, Ways to tell them apart by feel alone. I created that spell.”
“You’re right, I don’t understand.”
“Someone from the One O’s is helping them.”
“That is not good.” Mal says with a sigh of defeat as he lays on the ground.
“Nope.” Robin responds as she lays her head on his chest.
Running his hands through her hair, “do we still do the plan? There’s at least eight guards but added protection says they are protecting its contents and not that they have an army waiting in there.”
Snapping up and onto her feet, “we stick to the plan. I’ll call my guys and you call yours. We go now.”
Standing up next to her. He takes her hand and kisses it, “as you wish.” with a slight smile, he walks away and begins calling his crew.
“So cheesy” she thinks to herself as she dial’s her phone.
