Slowly, the two open the door. Inside are four bed like chairs, each with a person in it. Each person looks to be tied down with a metal harness engulfing their head. At the rooms center, the large Machine Man from before.
“I take it my men are all dead?”
Robin steps forward, into the room, “no, they are only asleep.”
“Huh, no idea why you would show ‘em mercy but okay. I had this whole plan too. I still cannot believe an actual Infernal Lord showed up.” He throws his arms up in the air, “like, how was I supposed to predict that! Come on!”
With heavy and deep coughs, the man says, “I suppose you are here for revenge or something.”
“Kinda feel sorry for you now. This is sad.” Mal says.
“What was the plan here?” says Robin.
“Well, as you may have guessed, I am Eric Brandings. I came into my mutation pretty late. Anyway, I was gonna use the robots to control the city and be its new and only underground king.”
“What about Technoid?” Mal says as he points to the people on the chairs.
“Oh well, Technoid as a whole, they weren’t ever here. I used them as cover for my dealings. If you mean these four, they are computers. See, I realized that my abilities were linked to my own mental capacity. So I hired a ton of really smart people to figure out how to extend that. They built these rigs that basically turn a person into a battery.”
“That is vile.” Robin says as she tries to figure out how to remove the helmets.
“And what happened to the scientists?”
Confused, Eric points to the chairs. “I needed batteries. Also, I wouldn’t mess with them. Those chairs are the only reason they are alive.”
Mal approaches Eric and says, “okay, well I’m just gonna put you out of your misery now.” Mal winds back and lets out all of his strength into Erics’ chest. A blinding flash of light forces Mal back as a golden and white blade appears above Erics’ head.
Eric begins to laugh. That same sickening, deep laugh. “You seem to be under a gross misunderstanding. I’m not telling you all this because I’m too weak to kill you all. I could snap you in two with one hand. No, I am telling you this so you believe the message I am supposed to deliver.”
He stands up, towering above Mal. “The Great Celestial king, Sandtallus is most displeased with the actions of the ones called the ‘One O’s’. Calling forth an Infernal Lord onto the mortal plane is punishable by divine law.”
“A trial will be held and your sins will be weighed.”
“Bullshit! You work for a divine celestial?” Robin yells from the other side of the room.
“How do you think I escaped the Lord? You lot called forth a demon so that makes You, the bad guys.” He says with another sickening laugh.
“Oh, and don’t even think about touching me.” he holds out his arm and there, branded in the metal is the glowing symbol of the celestial king himself. “Until the trial is over, I am untouchable.”
Mal and Robin look at each other, with defeated looks, they start to leave the room.
“Oh and the trial will begin in roughly three weeks so get your affairs in order now. Ahahah” Eric Brandsing calls after them.
__Back with Agent Wash__
“Wow, well that is a lot.” She ruffles through some papers and pulls out a form about the Technoids, crumples it up and tosses it in the trash.
“That was a little under two weeks ago so the trial is next week. You two better handle the demon before then.”
Looking confused, Mal says, “what does that have to do with the trial?”
“Love, if we are on trial for summoning an Infernal Lord, Sending one back to the Infernal plane looks good for us.” Robin says as she pats his arm.
“Right. That makes sense.”
“Well that seems like everything we need for now. I’ll update your files and let me know when you take care of the Lord and the trial so we can debrief you.” Agent Wash says as she starts packing up her belongings.
Mal and Robin start to stand up, “will do.”
“Oh and one last thing before you go, I noticed the ring on your finger, should I update your statuses there as well?”
Both Robin and Mal look at each other and with sly grins on their faces, they answer in unison, “we’ll let you know.”
