“Uh...” Iola felt a bit confused. “I don’t und-...”
“You will be escorted safely back to your home, Iola.” Dacia’s large hand pressed down on her slender shoulder. “I will have Kargan and a dozen of my best warriors ride with you...”
“No.” Iola shook her head in alarm. “I need not an escort so large lest my people fear another sortie from Sidusca. If you can spare one man...”
“Let me guess who.” Dacia grinned and glanced over her shoulder. “That imbecile you’re in love with.”
“What?” Iola gasped. “No. I am... No.”
“I don’t need your mind powers to see things that are so plain in sight.” The newly crowned Queen laughed. “He’s been in love with you since you invaded his mind... and his heart. And you’ve been in love with him since the time he came looking for you to that tavern.”
“I... but...” Iola turned red in the face and her ears were on fire. “He’s... I was...”
“It is perfectly normal for two young people to feel this way.” Dacia now had both her hands on Iola’s shoulders, weighing her down. “You and Nesmir. A lovely young country girl, a handsome young soldier boy, it was only inevitable.”
Iola looked up to gaze at Dacia’s cold hard grey eyes.
“There’s is only one problem with that, little one.” The taller woman whispered sharply. “I think I am in love with you too... and I... am a Queen.”
