'A gorgeous tumble of long, golden hair the color of the moon on a night dotted with stars and with skin just as fair, it took one their utmost effort to look away from her mesmerizing blue eyes, ones that looked like the sea and the ocean and all bodies of water that were vast and mysterious. She had a perfect pair of sherbet sweet lips, that only released words that would make one fall for her in an instant, and her figure, which was ever so dainty that one could not help but protect her. But it was her temprament that most found themselves falling for, for the princess was ever so kind...'
That is how the book described her, but mere words do her unjustice because here I am, seeing her in person and I don't believe I'd ever see a more beautiful person.
"What are you doing!?" Ridley hisses at me, and I am thrown into a frenzy of panic.
"What should I do???"
"Introduce yourself with a curtsy, what else?"
I take a deep breath and once again duck into what I think is a satisfactory curtsy, but by the way I hear a few maids muffle their laughter, I know I must look like an absolute fool.
"Greetings, Your highness. My name is Adalynne Cleaver." What is with the trembling voice, Hana??? Why must you sound like that?
"Rise," says Princess Delphine, and I stand up again just to see that her expression is not one of mocking. In fact, she smiles at me and beckons me forward.
Hesitating, I take a step inside the room. I jump as the doors close being me. I risk a quick sneak-peek behind me, relieved to see that Ridley is also in the room.
"You look afraid," the princess says, and my attention is back on her. She's smiling.
"I am?" I ask, blinking rapidly, because damn. I sure am.
She laughs. That's the sweetest sound I've ever heard. "Aren't you a funny one? Tell me, Adalynne Cleaver. How is your family?"
I gulp because I have no idea; I don't know how to answer. I muster up a smile as I say, "They're very happy, Your Highness."
She raises an eyebrow. "Oh? But I heard your brother died not very long ago."
Sh*t!
"YES! Yes, of course," I laugh nervously, then shut up because I shouldn't be laughing when my brother is supposed to be dead. "My family is very, very sad. But they're handling themselves well."
She gives me an amused look as she leans her chin on her knuckles. "And you?" she says.
I blink. "Me?"
"Yes, you," she says. "How are you handling your brother's death?"
I look behind me at Ridlev and she gives me a wide-eved look of warning, as if to say 'Don't mess it up!'. I turn back to Princess Delphine and see she's waiting for an answer.
"Um," I hesitate. "I think I'll be fine."
"Are you sure?"
I nod.
"Are you sick?"
I frown. "No, I don't think so." Oops! "I don't think so, YOUR HIGHNESS!"
She laughs at this, and I don't know what she finds so funny. I peek at Ridley and she gives me a shrug, seeming just as confused as I am.
"Bring them something to sit on," Princess Delphine says with a wave of her hand as she wipes away a tear, still laughing. "Though I do enjoy your company very much, Adalynne, I'm afraid there's something serious I have to discuss with you, as well as your companion over there," she says, gesturing towards Ridley.
The maids push two chairs towards us and both of us sit down, growing more puzzled by the second.
Transmigration always seemed like a joke to Hana Kang until she woke up as Adalynne Cleaver, loyal maid to the famed beauty of the Empire of Serling.
Sent on a spying mission by her mistress to the neighboring Empire of Xek, Ada is forced to rely on the knowledge of this Novel-bound world and her trusty friend, Ridley, with whose help they uncover the secrets of the Xek Royalty, and maybe more. . .
