Now where should I begin?
I walked down a busy street filled with vendors selling all kinds of items. To continue being scum, I had to find myself a partner I can cheat with.
Bam
I stumbled when something hit my back. I turned in anger, ready to lash out like a trashy villain, just to see a girl on the ground.
The same girl that bumped into me yesterday.
“I-I’m so sorry!” She stuttered out, as she got on her knees and bowed profusely. “I didn’t mean to hit you. P-Please forgive me.”
Talk about deja vu.
“This is the second time.” I stated coldly, staring down at her as if she was a bug.
“H-Huh?” Her big violet eyes stared at me in confusion. I could tell the moment she realized what I meant when her eyes widened more than I thought possible. “I’m really sorry. Truly!”
She looked down and mumbled, “I can’t believe I bumped into the same person twice in two days…”
“What’s your name?” I asked.
She stared at me blankly for a few seconds before replying, “My name is Kathrine but you may call me Rin, my lord.”
“Hm, and last name?” I took my flask out and took a sip.
“…I don’t have a last name, my lord.” She looks down to the ground, seeming to be ashamed.
I took another sip before putting the flask back in my coat pocket. This could work in my favour.
“Yeah, so how are you going to make it up to me?”
“What?”
I tapped my foot on the ground impatiently.
“You do feel sorry, right?” I crossed my arms, staring down at her. “Don’t tell me it was all talk.”
“N-No! I sincerely meant what I said! I really do apologize for-"
“Then how will you show it?”
“Um…” The girl looked down in uncertainty, twiddling with her fingers.
A wicked grin appeared on my face. “I know.” I bent down to be level with her, who was currently still kneeling on the dirt path. “You’ll be my new fiancée.”
“Huh?!” The girl exclaimed in shock. “W-What do you mean?!”
“It’s exactly as I said.” I lifted her head up with my finger on her chin and turned her head left and right. “You have the looks so you’ll be perfect to play the role of my new fiancée.”
I stood up. “You see,” I grabbed her hand and helped her stand. “I need someone to help me break off my long time engagement. I don’t have any feelings for her and since it’s an arranged marriage, I can’t just break it off that easily. So, that’s where you’ll come in.”
I looked around, making sure no one was listening to our conversation before continuing.
“I need you to pretend as if we’ve known each other for a while, and that I’ve been courting you for the past several months. Once we make that public, my fiancée and her family will want to break the engagement.”
“But, isn’t this between nobles?” The girl asked, concern written on her face. “Wouldn’t there be repercussions for the both of us?”
“Oh, don’t worry about that. I’m from a wealthy and powerful family. No one sane will try anything on me. Not unless they have a death wish.”
“And what about me? I'm just a commoner. What do I get out of this?”
Oh. A smirk appeared on my face. She’s either fearless or stupid. To think she’s trying to negotiate with a noble.
“To start off, this will be your way of showing how sorry you really are. Don't worry, you’ll have my protection.” I shrugged. “After all, you will be engaged to me, the great first son and future Marquess Lucian Devonshire. Plus, if you do a good job, I can add in a bonus to your paycheck of 1800 gold.”
Her mouth dropped open for a second but she quickly composed herself.
“How about we just get married?” Her eyes twinkled.
“I don’t need marriage. An engagement is enough.” I stated blatantly.
“…” The brunette seemed to think for a bit but made a decision quickly. “Deal.”
The two of us shook hands.
And like that, phase 2 of the trashy villain starts.
